Serta 100 mg, available as tablets, is mainly used to treat depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, panic attack, post-traumatic stress disorder and social anxiety disorder. It is also used to rel
ieve the symptoms of the premenstrual dysphoric disorder, such as mood swings, irritability, bloating, and breast tenderness. Serta 100 mg comes under selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), a class of antidepressants that works by increasing the amounts of serotonin in the brain, which helps maintain mental balance.

Contraindications of Serta 100 MG
Serta 100 mg is contraindicated in:
In patients taking pimozide.
In patients taking, or within 14 days of stopping MAOIs such as linezolid and intravenous methylene blue as it might increase the risk of serotonin syndrome

Talk to your doctor if
- Patients with depressive symptoms should be screened for bipolar disorder as Serta 100 mg may cause hypomania in such patients. Serta 100 mg is not prescribed for patients with bipolar disorder.
- Patients with a seizure disorder should take Serta 100 mg with caution. One should consult a doctor before taking the medicine.
- Serta 100 mg should be used with caution in patients with a history of seizure disorders, liver or kidney damage, heart disease, bleeding disorder, diabetes and angle-closure glaucoma.

How Does It Work?
Serta 100 mg is an antidepressant of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) class.
It mainly acts by increasing serotonin levels, a chemical messenger in the brain.
An increase of serotonin level in the brain improves mood and physical symptoms of depression and relieves symptoms of obsessive-compulsive disorder, panic disorder, premenstrual dysphoric disorder, and anxiety....
Directions for Use of Serta 100 MG
- Serta 100 mg is available in tablets and a concentrated liquid. It can be taken orally with or without food. Also, one must follow the direction advised by the doctor.
Interactions of Serta 100 MG
Interactions with other medicines
- Serta 100 mg react with the following drugs.
- Pimozide - drugs highly bound to plasma protein may increase the risk of QTc prolongation and ventricular arrhythmias
- Phenytoin- Phenytoin is a narrow therapeutic index drug. Serta 100 mg may increase phenytoin concentrations.
- Antiplatelet agents ( aspirin, heparin, warfarin)- Increases the risk of bleeding.
- Other SSRIs, SNRIs, triptans etc.- Increase the risk of serotonin syndrome.
Interactions with food items
- Serta 100 mg should not be consumed with cola drinks, chocolates and caffeine-containing food items as it can result in serotonin syndrome.
- The symptoms of serotonin syndrome include high fever, agitation, vomiting, nausea, rapid heartbeat, trembling, sweating, and weird muscle movements.
Storage and disposal of Serta 100 MG
Serta 100 mg should be kept in a tightly-closed container stored at room temperature. It should not be kept in a moist environment. It should be kept out of reach of children.
Dosage of Serta 100 MG
Overdose
- Following are the symptoms of Serta 100 mg overdose -
- drowsiness, agitation, hallucinations, fever, sweating, confusion, fast heartbeat, shivering, severe muscle stiffness or twitching, loss of coordination, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhoea, excessive tiredness, dizziness, agitation, mania, seizures, loss of consciousness...
- Serta 100 mg increases the risk of suicidal thoughts and behaviour in young adult patients. Such patients should be closely monitored.
Missed a Dose
On missing a dose, one must skip the missed dose should take the next dose on time. Avoid taking a double dose. One must avoid missing doses as this could make treatment less effective. There can be withdrawal symptoms also....
