Medical Description

Planoset injection is used to prevent and control nausea and vomiting linked with chemotherapy or surgery. It contains palonosetron, an anti-nausea medicine that blocks a chemical messenger involved in the vomiting response. By reducing these signals in the brain and digestive system, it helps control queasiness and vomiting when these treatments trigger them. Planoset injection is given into a vein by a doctor or nurse in a hospital or clinic and is not for self-injection.

Uses

  • Chemotherapy-related nausea: Chemotherapy can trigger a queasy feeling through signals between the gut and brain; this injection reduces sickness during treatment.
  • Chemotherapy-related vomiting: Vomiting can cause fluid loss and weakness during chemotherapy; this injection helps control it and supports hydration.
  • Postoperative nausea and vomiting: Anaesthesia and surgery can upset the stomach; this injection reduces sickness during recovery.

Dosage

Overdose

Too much palonosetron may increase side effects such as headache, dizziness, constipation or heart rhythm changes. If you think you have taken too much of this medicine, contact your doctor immediately or visit the nearest hospital.

Missed a Dose

If you missed any dose of medicine, take it as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose, then skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dose schedule. Do not take a double dose of medicine to compensate for the missed one.

How does this medicine work?

In the body, palonosetron blocks serotonin signals that can trigger nausea and vomiting in the brain and digestive system. This helps prevent or control sickness after chemotherapy or surgery.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

Some medicines can affect the way Planoset injection works. Tell your doctor about all the medicines, vitamins and supplements you take. In particular, mention antidepressants such as venlafaxine, clomipramine, escitalopram and imipramine, lithium, and medicines that affect heart rhythm. These combinations may increase the risk of serotonin-related symptoms or rhythm changes, so the treating team may need to review them.
