Pecef suspension is an antibiotic commonly prescribed to children for treating various bacterial infections affecting the ears, eyes, nose, throat, lungs, skin, gastrointestinal tract, and urinary tract. The active ingredient in Pecef suspension is cefpodoxime. It works by inhibiting the growth of bacteria that cause infections.
Before giving this medicine to your child, inform your doctor if your child is allergic to any antibiotics or has experienced allergic reactions after taking them. The medicine must be given in the prescribed dosage for the specified duration. Storage and disposal
- Store Pecef suspension at temperature not exceeding 25°C. Protect it from light and moisture.
- Store the reconstituted suspension in the refrigerator.
- Keep it out of the reach of children and pets.
Quick Tips
- Do not use Pecef suspension for any other condition than that prescribed by the doctor.
- Do not stop the treatment with this medicine midway during your course, even if your child starts feeling better. The course should be completed. Otherwise, it can lead to resistance. Seek medical help if your child has persistent diarrhoea.

- Symptoms of an overdose of Pecef suspension include nausea, vomiting, gas, stomach pain and diarrhoea.
- If you have given too much of this medicine to your child, then contact your doctor or reach out to the nearest hospital immediately.

Interactions with other medicines
- Some medicines can affect the way Pecef suspension works or this medicine itself can reduce the effectiveness of other medicines taken at the same time.
- Tell your doctor about all the medicines, supplements or herbals you are currently taking or might take to avoid any possible interactions.
- Concomitant use of acid-lowering medicines such as Ranitidine, Cimetidine with Pecef suspension can decrease the effect of this medicine.
- Concomitant use of Probenecid with Pecef suspension increases the effect of this medicine.
- When medicines known to cause harm to the kidney such as amphotericin-B, vancomycin, amikacin are administered along with Pecef suspension may increase the risk of kidney disease.
