- Patinex 12.5 mg is used in,
- Treatment of depression
- Treatment of panic disorder
- Treatment of anxiety disorder
Contraindications
- If you are hypersensitive or allergic to paroxetine or other inactive ingredients of Patinex Tabs.
- If you are currently taking monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOI) or have taken them in the last 14 days.
- If you are taking thioridazine, medicine used for the treatment of symptoms of schizophrenia.
- If you are taking pimozide, medication used for the treatment of symptoms of psychosis.

Other General Warnings
- You have suicidal thoughts or experience a change in behaviour. Any unusual symptoms or changes in behaviour should be reported to the doctor immediately.
- You have a history of seizure disorders. Patinex can increase the risk of recurrent seizures. This medicine should be immediately stopped if you develop seizures or notice an increase in the frequency of seizures.
- You feel pressure in your eyes. Glaucoma patients have an increased risk of developing adverse side effects when taking Patinex.
- You have low sodium levels. Patinex can lower sodium levels in the blood. Patients on diuretics (water pills) are more likely to suffer from low sodium levels.
- You are taking other medications for the treatment of depression. Using Patinex along with other medicines can cause hallucinations, agitation, seizures, etc., known as serotonin syndrome.
- You have a history of neuroleptic malignant syndrome characterised by high fever, muscle aches, excessive sweating, and salivation. Using Patinex can increase your risk of developing these symptoms, and the medication should be stopped if you observe the occurrence of these signs.
- You are at risk of developing high blood pressure. Patinex can cause a spike in blood pressure.
- You suffer from a bleeding disorder. Taking Patinex can cause increased bleeding and bruising. Taking medications that can cause increased gastrointestinal bleeding, such as aspirin or ibuprofen, along with Patinex should be avoided.
- You experience symptoms such as rashes, swelling, severe dizziness, or difficulty breathing.
Directions for Use
- Patinex 12.5 mg must be taken as and when directed by your doctor.
- Take Patinex Tabs at the same time every day to ensure that a constant level of medication is maintained in the blood.
- Swallow Patinex Tablet as a whole with a glass of water. Do not break, crush or chew it, as this can reduce its efficacy.
- Patinex Tablet can be taken with or without food.
- Do not alter the dosage of Patinex Tablets. Talk to your doctor if you feel that the prescribed dosage is not working for you.
- Do not stop taking Patinex Tabs without consulting your doctor.

Interactions with other medicines
- To avoid side effects associated with interactions with other medicines, it is important to inform the doctor about all medicines and health supplements you are currently taking.
- Patinex Tabs are known to interact with the following medicines:
- Linezolid (used for infections such as pneumonia and other infections of the skin)
- Lithium (used in the treatment and prevention of episodes of mania seen in people with bipolar disorder)
- Ondansetron (prevents nausea and vomiting)
- Sertraline (used in the treatment of depression, panic disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder)
- Methylene Blue (used for methemoglobinemia, a condition where the blood is unable to deliver the required amount of oxygen to the body)
- Indinavir (medication used for the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection)
- Warfarin (blood thinner used for blood clots in the body)
- Aspirin (used for minor aches, fever, pain, also works as an anti-inflammatory and blood thinner)
- Sumatriptan (medication to alleviate symptoms of migraine headaches)
- MAOIs (antidepressants)
