Medical Description

Ocafib Tablet is used to treat a liver disease that gradually destroys the bile ducts in the liver. It contains obeticholic acid as the active substance that works by reducing the production of a substance called bile. Ocafib Tablet is to be used in adults only. This medicine should be used exactly as recommended by your doctor. Do not take this medicine on your own.

Uses

Ocafib Tablet is used for the treatment of a liver disease called primary biliary cirrhosis in adults.

Contraindications

  • If you are allergic to obeticholic acid or any other ingredient of Ocafib Tablet.
  • If you have complete blockage of the bile ducts in your liver or gallbladder.

Missed a Dose

If you missed any dose of the medicine, take it as soon as you remember. If it's time for your next dose, then skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to compensate for the missed one.

Ocafib Tablet works by attaching to certain proteins in the liver and gut that control the production of a substance called bile. This reduces the production of bile in the liver and prevents it from building up and damaging the liver tissue.

  • Some medicines can affect the way Ocafib Tablet works or this Tablet itself can reduce the effectiveness of other medicines taken at the same time.
  • Tell your doctor about all medicines, supplements or herbals you are currently taking or might take to avoid any possible interaction.
  • The use of Ocafib Tablet with bile acid binding resins (cholestyramine, colestipol, colesevelam) may reduce the effectiveness of this Tablet.
  • Particular care should be taken if you are using medicines to treat asthma/chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder (theophylline), muscle cramps (tizanidine), blood clots (warfarin).
