The cough suppressant noscapine blocks nerve signals from the cough centre in the brain to the muscles that cause coughing, thereby reducing the need to cough. The expectorant ammonium chloride contributes to mucous relief and clears the respiratory tract by reducing mucous stickiness. The mucolytic agent sodium citrate is a sputum thinner, which works by loosening and thinning the phlegm of the lungs, windpipe, and nasal passages. You should avoid dairy products, such as milk, that may result in mucous production.
