Mignar 50mg Tablet
Description
Mignar tablet is a medicine used along with diet and exercise to help control blood sugar in adults with type 2 diabetes. It works by slowing down the breakdown of certain carbohydrates from food, so sugar enters the blood more gradually after meals. This helps prevent big spikes in blood sugar and makes it easier to keep your levels within a healthy range.
You should not take this medicine if you are allergic to it or any of its ingredients, have a condition called diabetic ketoacidosis, or have certain bowel problems like inflammatory bowel disease, colon ulcers, or partial intestinal blockage. It is also not suitable for people at risk of bowel blockage, with severe digestion or absorption issues, or with conditions that may worsen from increased gas in the intestines.
Some common side effects can include gas, bloating, stomach cramps, diarrhoea, and soft stools, especially when you first start taking it. These effects often improve as your body gets used to the medicine. If you take it with other diabetes medicines like insulin or sulfonylureas, your blood sugar may drop too low. In such cases, use glucose (dextrose), not table sugar, to treat low blood sugar quickly.
This medicine can interact with some other medications. For example, it may slightly reduce the effect of glyburide, metformin, digoxin, ranitidine, and propranolol. Medicines like charcoal or certain digestive enzymes can make it less effective, so they should be avoided at the same time. Antacids do not affect how it works. Always let your doctor know about all the medicines you are taking.
Store Mignar tablet in a cool, dry place, away from sunlight, heat, moisture, children, and pets. If you miss a dose, take it with your next meal. Unless it is almost time for the next dose, never take two doses together. It should only be used in pregnancy if truly needed and is not recommended during breastfeeding. If you have kidney problems, frequent stomach issues, or are unwell, you should speak to your doctor as you may need changes to your treatment.

Interactions
Interactions with other medicines
- Miglitol may slightly reduce the effectiveness of glyburide in some people, but this difference is usually small and not always significant.
- It may slightly decrease the absorption of metformin, but the change is not considered significant.
- It can lower the blood levels of digoxin in healthy volunteers, though this effect was not observed in diabetic patients already taking digoxin.
- It may significantly reduce the absorption of ranitidine (used for stomach acid) and propranolol (used for the heart and blood pressure), which could make these medicines less effective.
- It does not affect warfarin (blood thinner) or nifedipine (used for high blood pressure and angina).
- Medicines like charcoal or digestive enzyme products that break down carbohydrates (such as amylase or pancreatin) can lessen the benefits of miglitol and should be avoided at the same time.
- Antacids do not alter the way miglitol works in the body.
