Interactions with other medicines
- Disulphiram results in symptoms of psychosis when used with metronidazole
- Metronidazole increases the effects of blood-thinning medications like warfarin
- Medicines containing lithium may result in kidney disorders when taken along with methotrexate
- Anti-epileptic medicines like phenytoin decrease the levels of metronidazole in the body
- Concomitant use of methotrexate increases the serum levels of carbamazepine and increases the risk of toxicity
- Metronidazole increases the levels of anti-cancer medicines like fluorouracil and busulfan in the blood and results in toxic effects in the body
- Methotrexate when taken with immunosuppressants like cyclosporin increases its levels in blood
