Pregnancy

Can I take Metro 200mg tablet during pregnancy?

Metronidazole is prescribed in pregnant women only when required, or alternative medications fail to eradicate the infection.

Breast Feeding

Can I take a Metro 200mg tablet while breastfeeding?

Since metronidazole is secreted in breast milk, it should be avoided and used only when prescribed.

Driving

Can I drive if I have consumed a Metro 200mg tablet?

Driving should be avoided if side effects like dizziness, confusion, and seizures are experienced.

Alcohol

Can I consume alcohol with a Metro 200mg tablet?

Nausea, vomiting, rapid beating of the heart, and flushed face are some of the symptoms produced when alcohol is consumed while taking a Metro tablet. Hence it should be avoided entirely, at least for 14 days after completing the treatment with metronidazole.

Directions for Use of Metro 200 MG

This medication should be taken as prescribed by your doctor
Do not chew, crush or break the tablet in half
Swallow it as a whole with a glass of water
You can take it with or without food

Interactions of Metro 200 MG

Interactions with other medicines

Disulphiram produces psychosis symptoms when used with metronidazole.
Blood-thinning effects of medications like warfarin increase due to metronidazole
Medicines containing lithium result in kidney damage when used along with metronidazole medicine
Metronidazole gets eliminated from the body at a rapid rate when taken along with anti-epileptic medication (phenytoin)
Metronidazole increases the toxic effects caused by high levels of carbamazepine
Metronidazole causes toxicity and increases the levels of anti-cancer medicines like fluorouracil and busulfan in the blood.
Immunosuppressant medicines like ciclosporin levels increase in the blood when taken along with metronidazole.

Other general Interactions

Metronidazole causes liver failure and may lead to death in patients with Cockayne syndrome.

Keep it in a cool and dry place below 25°C
Store the tablets in the original package
Keep it away from direct sunlight and protect it from moisture
Keep the medication away from the reach of children and pets
