Medical Description

Gammarp injection is an injectable immunoglobulin treatment used for people who do not have enough protective antibodies and for immune thrombocytopenia, a condition in which platelets are removed too quickly and bleeding can occur. It contains a combination of polyvalent immunoglobulins, which are purified antibodies that can provide temporary immune support. These antibodies help the body recognise foreign substances and may also calm immune activity that lowers platelet levels. Gammarp injection is given by a doctor or nurse in a hospital or clinic, with observation for reactions during and after treatment.

Uses

  • Low protective antibodies: Polyvalent immunoglobulins provide temporary antibody support when the immune system does not make enough antibodies, helping reduce the risk of infections.
  • Immune thrombocytopenia: This condition lowers platelets and can cause bleeding; Gammarp injection may raise platelet levels and help control bleeding.

Contraindications

If you are allergic to any ingredient of this medicine, do not receive it. Do not receive it if you have had a severe allergic reaction to human immunoglobulin. Tell your doctor before treatment if you have immunoglobulin A deficiency and a history of reactions to blood products.

Side effects

  • Chills: Shivering may occur during or soon after the infusion. Tell the nurse promptly if chills are severe or occur with fever.
  • Flushing: Warmth or redness of the face, ears, neck or upper body may occur during treatment. Ask the nurse to check you if it feels severe.
  • Dizziness or decreased blood pressure: You may feel light-headed or faint if blood pressure falls during treatment. Tell the nurse immediately and remain seated or lying down.
  • Headache or muscle pain: Headache or aching muscles may develop during or after treatment. Report a severe headache with neck stiffness, vomiting or confusion urgently.
  • Nausea, slow heart rate or wheezing: Feeling sick, an unusually slow heartbeat or wheezing can occur during treatment. Alert the nurse immediately; breathing difficulty or facial swelling needs emergency medical help.

Precautions and Warnings

Pregnancy

Pregnancy

Gammarp injection may be unsafe during pregnancy. Human information is limited, and animal studies have shown harmful effects on the developing baby. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or planning pregnancy so the expected benefit and possible risk can be weighed.

Breast Feeding

Breast Feeding

Gammarp injection should be used with caution while breastfeeding. Your doctor may advise pausing breastfeeding during treatment and will tell you when it may resume.

Driving

Driving

Dizziness, headache or decreased blood pressure may affect alertness. Do not drive until you feel fully alert after treatment.

Alcohol

Alcohol

Ask your doctor about alcohol during treatment. Avoid alcohol if you feel dizzy, unwell or dehydrated.

Directions for Use

This injection will be given by a doctor or nurse in a hospital or clinic. Do not self-inject. The healthcare team will monitor you for reactions during and after the infusion. Tell the healthcare professional immediately if you develop chills, flushing, dizziness, chest discomfort, breathing difficulty or severe headache.

Storage and disposal

Gammarp injection is stored in a refrigerator by the healthcare facility. It must not be frozen. Do not use a damaged or expired container.

Quick Tips

  • Tell the treatment team about any previous reaction to blood products or human immunoglobulins.
  • Drink fluids as advised before and after treatment unless your doctor has restricted fluids.
  • Report severe headache, chest pain, reduced urination or leg swelling promptly.
  • Tell the doctor about upcoming vaccinations because some vaccines may work less effectively after immunoglobulin treatment.
  • Remain under observation for the period advised after the infusion.

Dosage

Overdose

If too much immunoglobulin is given, it may increase the risk of headache, fluid overload, kidney problems or blood clots. If you think you have taken too much of this medicine, contact your doctor immediately or visit the nearest hospital.

Missed a Dose

If you missed any dose of medicine, take it as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose, then skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dose schedule. Do not take a double dose of medicine to compensate for the missed one.

How does this medicine work?

The polyvalent immunoglobulins are purified antibodies that can recognise foreign substances and help the body fight infections. They may also change harmful immune activity that removes platelets from the blood. This can improve platelet levels in immune thrombocytopenia and help reduce bleeding.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

Some medicines can affect the way Gammarp injection works. Tell your doctor about all the medicines, vitamins and supplements you take. In particular, tell your doctor before receiving a live vaccine because Gammarp injection may make it work less well, and mention any other immunoglobulin treatments.

Interactions with food items

No specific food interaction is known.
