Medical Description

Dotaz 4.5 powder for injection is an antibiotic used to treat susceptible bacterial infections of the lungs, urinary tract, skin, ears, sinuses, throat, teeth, bones and joints. It contains a combination of piperacillin and tazobactam. Piperacillin stops bacteria from building the protective covering they need to survive, while tazobactam blocks bacterial enzymes that can weaken piperacillin. The combination can help piperacillin remain active against certain resistant bacteria. Dotaz 4.5 injection is prepared and given into a vein by a doctor or nurse in a hospital or clinic.

  • Skin, dental, bone and joint infections: These infections can cause redness, pain or swelling; the combination helps treat susceptible bacteria in affected tissues.

How does this medicine work?

The active antibiotic, piperacillin, stops bacteria from building the protective covering needed for survival. Tazobactam blocks bacterial enzymes that can break down piperacillin, allowing it to work against certain resistant bacteria.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

Some medicines can affect the way Dotaz 4.5 injection works. Tell your doctor about all the medicines, vitamins and supplements you take. In particular, mention blood thinners, other antibiotics, medicines that can affect kidney function, medicines that change potassium levels, muscle relaxants and probenecid used for gout. These combinations may alter bleeding risk, kidney function, blood salts or the effect of the other medicine. Piperacillin and tazobactam can also affect some laboratory test results.

Interactions with food items

No specific food interaction is known. Follow the healthcare team's advice about food and fluids during treatment.
