Medical Description

Coldimix DS syrup is used to relieve common cold and allergy symptoms such as a blocked or runny nose, sneezing, watery eyes, fever and minor aches. It contains a combination of chlorpheniramine maleate, paracetamol and phenylephrine. Chlorpheniramine reduces the effects of histamine, a chemical involved in allergy symptoms, paracetamol lowers fever and eases pain, and phenylephrine reduces swelling in the nasal passages. The syrup is given by mouth using the measuring device supplied with the pack, and it should not be drunk directly from the bottle.

Precautions and Warnings

Pregnancy

Pregnancy

Use Coldimix DS syrup during pregnancy only if your doctor recommends it after considering the benefits and possible risks. Do not self-treat persistent symptoms during pregnancy.

Breast Feeding

Breast Feeding

Ask your doctor before using Coldimix DS syrup while breastfeeding. Chlorpheniramine may make a breastfed infant sleepy or reduce milk supply in some people.

Driving

Driving

Coldimix DS syrup may cause sleepiness, dizziness or reduced alertness. Do not drive, cycle or operate machinery if affected.

Alcohol

Alcohol

Do not drink alcohol while using Coldimix DS syrup. Alcohol can increase drowsiness and may add to the harmful effects of excess paracetamol.

Directions for Use

Shake well before use. Use the measuring device supplied with the pack. Do not drink from the bottle. Take Coldimix DS syrup by mouth only as advised by your doctor. Do not combine it with another paracetamol-containing product or another cold remedy unless advised.

Storage and disposal

Store Coldimix DS syrup below 30°C, protected from direct light and moisture. Keep the bottle tightly closed and out of children's reach. Do not use it after the expiry date or if its appearance has changed. Dispose of leftover syrup according to pharmacist advice.

Quick Tips

  • Use the measuring device supplied with the pack, not a household spoon.
  • Do not combine Coldimix DS syrup with another product containing paracetamol.
  • Avoid driving if you feel sleepy, dizzy or less alert.
  • Drink suitable fluids and rest while recovering from a cold.
  • Seek care if fever persists, breathing becomes difficult or symptoms worsen.

Dosage

Overdose

An overdose may cause severe sleepiness, restlessness, vomiting, fast heartbeat, breathing problems or serious paracetamol-related harm, which may not be obvious at first. If you think you have taken too much of this medicine, contact your doctor immediately or visit the nearest hospital.

Missed a Dose

If you missed any dose of medicine, take it as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose, then skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dose schedule. Do not take a double dose of medicine to compensate for the missed one.

How does this medicine work?

Chlorpheniramine blocks histamine, a body chemical that contributes to sneezing, itching, watery eyes and a runny nose. Paracetamol reduces the formation of chemical messengers involved in pain and fever. Phenylephrine narrows swollen blood vessels in the nose, helping open the nasal passages.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

Some medicines can affect the way Coldimix DS syrup works. Tell your doctor about all the medicines, vitamins and supplements you take. In particular, tell them about antidepressants called monoamine oxidase inhibitors, medicines for high blood pressure or heart disease, sedatives or sleep medicines, other allergy medicines and any product containing paracetamol. These combinations can increase blood pressure or drowsiness, or raise total paracetamol exposure.
