Mode of Action
How Does It Work?
- Castor-NF cream contains clobetasol, terbinafine, ciprofloxacin and metronidazole as its active ingredients.
- Clobetasol is a steroid that decreases the production of certain substances in the body that are responsible for inflammation. This helps to reduce swelling and irritation.
- Terbinafine is an antifungal that prevents the formation of a substance called ergosterol which is essential for maintaining the structure of the fungus. This prevention causes a number of abnormalities in the fungus like leakage of the components of the cell and cell death.
- Ciprofloxacin is an antibiotic that interferes with the chemicals required for the production of the genetic material of bacteria. This results in the death of infection-causing bacteria.
- Metronidazole is an antibiotic that acts by altering the growth of bacteria. It interacts with the genetic material of bacteria and prevents bacterial multiplication. This stops the further growth of bacteria and kills the bacteria causing the infection.
Interactions
Interactions with other medicines
- Since Castor-NF cream is to be used externally on the skin, it is less likely to interact with other medicines.
- However, you should always consult your doctor if you are taking other medicines for treating other health conditions.
- The use of Castor-NF cream with medicines for treating HIV/AIDS (ritonavir) and fungal infections (itraconazole) may increase the levels of Castor-NF cream in the body.
- Particular care should be taken if you are taking medicines for treating chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (theophylline), migraine headaches (caffeine), blood clots (warfarin), immune system alteration (cyclosporine).
