Medical Description

Budenase AQ Nasal Spray contains medicine known as Budesonide. It belongs to the class of steroids. It is used to relieve the symptoms related to allergy and inflammation within the nose. Use of this nasal spray decreases the swelling of the nose and prevents the symptoms like runny or blocked nose or sneezing. Do not use it if you are allergic or below the age of 18 years. Take doctors advice if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Use this spray exactly as described by your doctor. You may get irritation in the nose like sneezing, dryness of nose, stinging sensation in the nose immediately after using the spray.

Uses of Budenase Aq Nasal Spray

  • This medicine is used to treat allergic symptoms like runny nose, sneezing, itching or blocked nose. It is used to decrease or prevent the inflammatory process in the nose during an allergy.

Contraindications of Budenase Aq Nasal Spray

If you have a history of allergy (rashes, itching, swelling of lips, tongue, difficulty in breathing and swallowing) to any of the contents of this medicine. If you are below 18 years of age.

Side effects of Budenase Aq Nasal Spray

  • Irritation in the nose
  • Sneezing
  • Dryness of nose
  • Stinging sensation in the nose immediately after using the spray
  • Nose bleed
  • In rare cases -
  • Rashes, itching, hives, redness of the skin, swelling of face, lips, tongue or other parts of the body, breathing difficulties, wheezing, difficulty in swallowing or feeling of fainting
  • Ulcers in the nose, change of voice, bruising, blurring of vision
  • Muscle cramps, alteration in the secretion of normal steroids in the body, perforation in the nasal septum (membrane separating the nostrils)
  • Ulcers in the nose, change of voice, bruising, blurring of vision
  • Glaucoma (increased pressure in the eye)
  • Cataract

Pregnancy

If you are pregnant or planning to have a baby, use this medicine only after doctor's advice. After careful examination and evaluating risk-benefit aspects, he may prescribe you this medicine.

Breast Feeding

Driving

Other General Warnings

Talk to your doctor if
  • You have an infection of nose and sinuses.
  • You have an ulcer in the nose.
  • You have had nasal surgery which is not been healed properly.
  • You experience frequent and heavy nose bleeds.
  • You have tuberculosis, chest infection, chickenpox or measles or you have in contact with patients with these conditions.
  • You have a history of glaucoma (increased eye pressure) or cataract.
  • You have an infection in the eye.
  • You have diabetes.
  • You have liver problems.
  • You are using any steroid medicines in the form of eczema creams, asthma inhalers or tablets, injections, nasal sprays, eye drops or nose drops.
  • If you experience symptoms like the blurring of vision, visual disturbances or any signs of infections like fever, consult your doctor immediately.
  • Inform your doctor about the nasal spray if you are undergoing any operation or stress. He may prescribe you additional steroid tablets. Inform your doctor if you also get any problem during the allergic episode. He may prescribe you additional medicine for that.

  • If your symptoms don’t improve even after using it for 14 days, consult your doctor.
  • Do not use this spray for more than 3 months continuously.
  • Do not use it in children and adolescents below the age of 18 years.

Directions for Use of Budenase Aq Nasal Spray

  • Use this medicine exactly as described by your doctor.
  • Do not use more than two sprays in each nostril per day.
  • If you are allergic to a particular type of substance, your doctor may advise you to use this spray as a preventive measure.
  • Take this spray for the duration exactly as prescribed by your doctor.
  • Prime the nozzle (shake well and spray into the air until you see even mist). Do priming every time if you leave a gap of more than a day before the next dose.
  • Blow the nose, put the tip of the nozzle into your nose, spray it as per prescribed, no need to breathe in at the same time you spray.
  • Wipe the nozzle with clean tissue paper. Close it with the protective cap. Store the bottle in an upright position.

Interactions of Budenase Aq Nasal Spray

Interactions with other medicines

  • Concomitant use of medicines to treat fungal infections like (Ketoconazole, Itraconazole) and Budesonide, the active component of this medicine may alter the effect of Budenase AQ Nasal Spray.
  • Medicines like Cimetidine used to reduce the acidity of the stomach when used together with Budenase AQ Nasal Spray may increase the Budenase AQ Nasal Spray. Hence, the combination can be avoided.
  • Oestrogen containing medicines like contraceptives or hormone replacement therapy.
  • Other corticosteroids in the form of asthma inhalers or tablets, injections, nasal sprays, eczema creams, eye drops or nose drops.
  • If you have just stopped any Corticosteroid medicine like Prednisolone.
  • Tell your doctor about any of the other medicine you are taking which includes medicine without prescription and herbal medicines as these medicines may alter the effectiveness of Budesonide or increase the chances of side effects.

Storage and disposal of Budenase Aq Nasal Spray

Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children. Do not use this medicine after the expiry date. The expiry date refers to the last day of the month. Do not store it above 30°C. Do not freeze or store in the fridge. Store the bottle in an upright position. Use within 2 months of opening the bottle. Do not throw away any medicines via wastewater or household waste.

Overdose

  • Take this medicine in dose exactly prescribed by your doctor. Overdose may increase the chances of side effects of the medicine. If you experience any adverse symptoms on taking more than prescribed sprays, seek immediate medical attention.

Missed a Dose

If you forget a dose, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is nearly time for the next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.
