Medical Description

Amlopin Plus tablet is used to treat both high blood pressure and high cholesterol in people who need control of both conditions. It helps reduce the risk of heart attacks, strokes, and other heart-related problems by lowering cholesterol and easing the workload on the heart.

It contains two main ingredients: atorvastatin and amlodipine. Atorvastatin lowers bad cholesterol and fats while raising good cholesterol. Amlodipine relaxes and widens blood vessels, helping the heart pump more easily and reducing blood pressure and chest pain.

You should not take this medicine if you are allergic to its ingredients, have liver disease, are pregnant or breastfeeding, or could become pregnant without reliable contraception. Common side effects may include headache, dizziness, stomach discomfort, weakness, or nausea.

Avoid grapefruit juice and let your doctor know about any other medicines you are taking, including antibiotics, antifungals, or drugs for your immune system. Some medications can increase the side effects or reduce the effectiveness of this medicine.

Take the medicine exactly as your doctor prescribes, preferably with or without food, and at the same time every day. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember unless it is almost time for the next dose. Do not take extra to make up for a missed one. Store it in a cool, dry place away from sunlight and out of reach of children.

Mode of Action

How Does It Work?

Atorvastatin helps lower bad cholesterol (LDL) and fats, such as triglycerides, in your blood, while slightly raising good cholesterol (HDL). It works by slowing down the production of cholesterol in your liver, which also helps your body remove more cholesterol from your blood. Lowering cholesterol levels in this way helps prevent the build-up of fatty deposits in your blood vessels, reducing the risk of heart attacks, strokes, and other heart-related problems.Amlodipine is used to lower high blood pressure and help prevent chest pain (angina). It works by relaxing and widening the blood vessels, making it easier for the heart to pump blood and improving blood flow. This helps lower blood pressure, reduces the strain on the heart, and decreases the risk of heart attacks, strokes, and other cardiovascular problems. It can also help relieve chest pain by improving blood supply to the heart muscle.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

  • Avoid grapefruit juice with amlodipine or atorvastatin as it can increase their effects and side effects.
  • Certain antibiotics (like erythromycin and clarithromycin) and antifungals can increase the levels of both medicines in your body, possibly leading to side effects.
  • Drugs like cyclosporine, tacrolimus, or fusidic acid can raise the risk of muscle damage when taken with atorvastatin.
  • Amlodipine may increase the effects of some medicines like cyclosporine or sirolimus; monitoring may be needed.
  • Some medications may reduce the effectiveness of amlodipine or atorvastatin, such as rifampicin, St. John’s Wort, or antacids.
  • Consult your doctor before combining these medicines with other medications for heart, cholesterol, or immune system conditions.
