Uses
- Treatment of major depressive disorder.
- Treatment of neuropathic pain (repairs damage to the nerves, which causes pain, tingling, weakness, and burning sensation).
- Treatment of post-herpetic neuralgia (lowers the pain or ache after a herpes infection).
- Treatment of migraine (reduces severe headache with throbbing pain).
Contraindications
- If you have any allergic reaction to amitriptyline.
- If you are currently using other antidepressant medications.
- If you regularly consume alcohol.
- If you are diagnosed with manic depression.
- If you are suffering from alcohol addiction
- If you have wide-angle or closed-angle glaucoma, an eye condition that increases fluid pressure in the eye.
- If you have a severe heart condition like heart rhythm disorder.
- If you have a seizure disorder (fits).
- If you are diagnosed with paralysis of the intestines (paralytic ileus).
- If you have any severe liver problems.
- If you cannot empty your bladder.
- If you are noticing sudden mood changes and suicidal thoughts.

- You have sodium, potassium, and other electrolyte imbalance.
- You have surgery or a medical/dental procedure planned. Inform your doctor when you took the last dose of Amitop Tablet.
- You have a history of diabetes, low blood pressure, etc.
- You have a serious kidney condition.
- You are using any vitamins, herbal or ayurvedic herbs or supplements; some can cause severe side effects.
Directions for Use
- You should try to take the Amitop Tablet as prescribed by your doctor.
- Do not change the dosage of Amitop Tablet without consulting your doctor.
- Try to swallow the whole tablet with a glass of water. Do not try to break or crush it.
- You can take Amitop Tablet with or without consuming food.
- Try to take these at the same time every day for optimal pharmacological effects.

How Does It Work?
Interactions
Interactions with other medicines
- It is contraindicated to use Amitop Tablet with certain antidepressants (sertraline, escitalopram) and antipsychotic medications. It can increase serotonin and cause life-threatening symptoms.
- If you want to use Amitop Tablet along with thyroid medication, dose adjustment is needed.
- It is better not to use Amitop medication with other sedatives and tranquillisers without consulting a doctor, as it can cause excessive drowsiness.
Interactions with food items
- Coffee contains tannins. They can bind to Amitop Tablet and decrease the amount of medicine absorbed by the body. To avoid this interaction, do not have coffee 1 hour before and 2 hours after taking the Amitop Tablet.
- Avoid drinking grapefruit and drinking its juice or consuming any grapefruit products as these may interact with the Amitop medication.
