Medical Description

Acebronk MF tablet is a prescription combination used to relieve allergy symptoms such as sneezing, a runny or blocked nose, itching and watery eyes. It contains montelukast, which reduces the effect of leukotrienes, body chemicals that can promote allergic inflammation and airway narrowing, and fexofenadine, an antihistamine that blocks histamine-related itching, redness and swelling. Together, these ingredients reduce allergy symptoms, but this tablet is not a rescue treatment for a sudden asthma attack. Acebronk MF tablet is taken by mouth as a whole tablet with water, under the advice of a healthcare professional.

  • Allergy-related airway symptoms: Montelukast lowers leukotriene effects that can narrow airways, but it does not relieve a sudden asthma attack.

Contraindications

If you are allergic to any ingredient of this medicine, do not use it. Do not use Acebronk MF tablet to treat a sudden asthma attack because it cannot provide quick relief. Tell your doctor if you have liver or kidney disease or a history of mood or behaviour changes before treatment.

How does this medicine work?

Montelukast blocks leukotrienes, body chemicals that can cause allergic inflammation and airway narrowing. Fexofenadine is an antihistamine that reduces the effect of histamine, which contributes to itching, sneezing, redness and watery eyes. Their combined action can ease allergy symptoms and may reduce allergy-related airway narrowing.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

Some medicines can affect the way Acebronk MF tablet works. Tell your doctor about all the medicines, vitamins and supplements you take. In particular, aluminium- or magnesium-containing antacids can lower fexofenadine absorption; erythromycin and ketoconazole can increase fexofenadine levels; rifampicin and some seizure medicines can lower montelukast levels; and other antihistamines may increase drowsiness. Tell your doctor if you use asthma medicines or other allergy medicines.

Interactions with food items

Apple, orange or grapefruit juice can lower fexofenadine absorption. Prefer water with Acebronk MF tablet and ask your doctor or pharmacist about fruit juice.
