Clobeta GM Cream is used to treat certain skin conditions involving inflammation and fungal or bacterial infection, when prescribed by a doctor. It contains clobetasol, neomycin, miconazole, zinc oxide, and borax as active ingredients.
Clobetasol, an ingredient in Clobeta GM Cream, is a super-potent corticosteroid. It reduces inflammation but requires careful use. Apply a thin layer only to the area your doctor identifies, for the prescribed duration. Do not use it longer than advised, as prolonged or excessive use can damage the skin and cause other side effects.
Common side effects include itching, dryness, redness, and a burning sensation at the application site. These effects may settle, but stop using the cream and seek medical advice if irritation is severe, persistent or worsening. Seek urgent help for signs of a serious allergic reaction.
Clobeta GM acts through its combined mechanism of action. Clobetasol is a steroid and possesses anti-inflammatory properties. Neomycin is an antibacterial agent, and miconazole is an antifungal agent.
Clobeta-GM cream is only for external use and should be used as directed by your doctor. Do not use it for an undiagnosed rash or treat every skin infection with this combination. If your condition worsens or does not improve within the period your doctor advises, seek medical advice.
Uses
Contraindications
- If you are allergic to clobetasol, neomycin, miconazole or any of the ingredients in this medicine.
- Do not use it for infections of the private parts, on the face, for acne, around the mouth or on damaged skin unless specifically directed by your doctor.
- If the skin at the treatment site is thinning or you have an untreated skin infection, consult your doctor before use.
- Do not use this cream if you have chickenpox, shingles, warts, or other wounds or skin infections.
- Do not use this medicine in children without consulting your doctor.
- Do not apply it to open wounds or skin ulcers unless your doctor specifically directs you to.
- Do not use it in or near the eyes, or on any internal or mucous surface.
- Do not use it for rosacea, acne, or perioral dermatitis, as a potent steroid can worsen these conditions.
Side effects
- Burning or stinging when the cream is applied
- Irritation or redness at the site
- Itching
- Dryness
- Thinning of the skin, which can make it fragile and easily bruised
- Stretch marks
- Visible small blood vessels, or a permanent change in skin colour at the site
- Increased hair growth at the treated area
- Acne-like or rosacea-like spots, particularly on the face
- Worsening or masking of a skin infection
- Signs of an allergic reaction: swelling of the face, lips, or throat, difficulty breathing, a widespread rash, or hives
- A spreading skin infection: increasing pain, spreading redness, pus, a red streak, or a fever
- Effects of the steroid being absorbed into the body, which can happen with prolonged use over large areas or under dressings, or in children: a rounder face, weight gain around the middle, easy bruising, raised blood sugar, or unusual tiredness
- Hearing changes, ringing in the ears or reduced urine output are not expected with routine use, but seek medical advice if these occur, particularly after extensive application to damaged skin.
Precautions and Warnings
Alcohol
WITH CAUTIONUse with caution. There is no direct interaction between alcohol and Clobeta-GM cream.
Pregnancy
WITH CAUTIONUse with caution. Limited information exists on the safety of Clobeta-GM cream during pregnancy. If your doctor prescribed this cream, use the smallest amount over the smallest area for the shortest duration advised. Avoid prolonged use or application to large areas unless specifically directed.
Breastfeeding
WITH CAUTIONUse with caution. Clobeta-GM cream can be used by a breastfeeding woman if prescribed by the doctor. It should not be applied to the breast or areas near the breast of the breastfeeding mother, as there is a chance of ingestion by a breastfed infant. Avoid using it on large areas of skin or for a prolonged period.
Driving
SAFEClobeta-GM cream is applied externally and is less likely to affect your ability to drive.
Other General Warnings
- You experience any allergic reactions on the skin after applying this cream.
- You are experiencing other infections after applying this cream.
- Do not apply this cream to a larger area of skin for longer than the prescribed duration.
- You have been using this cream longer than your doctor advised, or over a larger area, because the risk of skin thinning and steroid absorption increases with the amount used and the length of use.
- You are using it on a child, on the face, or in a skin fold such as the groin or armpit, as absorption is much greater in those places.
- You are considering covering the treated area with a bandage, dressing, or tight clothing, as this increases absorption. Do not do so unless your doctor told you to.
- If you have diabetes, a weakened immune system, or poor circulation, skin infections need closer attention.
- If the condition comes back when you stop, or doesn't improve as expected, Don't just keep repeating the course.
- For external use only. Keep it away from the eyes, mouth, and other mucous surfaces. Never use a leftover tube on a new rash, as applying a steroid to an undiagnosed rash can make an infection considerably worse.
Directions for use
- Use Clobeta-GM cream as directed by your doctor and follow all the instructions.
- For external use only. Apply only to the affected skin areas your doctor specifies, not to healthy skin.
- Wash your hands before and after using Clobeta-GM cream unless your hands are the area to be treated.
- Apply a thin layer and gently rub it in to cover the affected area, as directed by your doctor.
- If your condition does not improve within the period advised by your doctor, or worsens at any time, seek medical review rather than continuing treatment on your own.
- Clean and dry the area before applying. A thin layer is enough - a thicker one does not work better and increases side effects.
- Do not cover the treated area with a bandage, dressing or tight clothing unless your doctor told you to.
- Do not use it on the face, the groin or the armpits unless your doctor specifically told you to treat there.
- Follow the duration your doctor prescribed. Do not extend treatment or restart it for a recurring rash without medical advice.
- If the cream gets into your eyes, rinse them with clean water immediately.
Storage and disposal
- Store Clobeta-GM cream according to the instructions on the product label.
- Keep this medicine out of reach of children and pets.
- Discard expired or medicine that is no longer required properly.
- Keep the cap closed and keep the tube in its carton. Do not share the tube with anyone else.
- Do not use a partially used tube to treat a future rash without medical advice.
Quick tips
- Clobeta-GM cream is used to treat selected skin conditions involving inflammation and suspected or confirmed bacterial or fungal infection, when prescribed by a doctor.
- Use Clobeta-GM cream only externally, and do not use it for other skin conditions without consulting your doctor.
- Clobeta-GM cream should not be used on open wounds, skin ulcers, or any other area that could result in systemic absorption. Do not use it on children under two years of age or for nappy rash.
- Seek medical advice if your condition does not improve within the period advised by your doctor, or if it worsens.
- Clobeta-GM cream can cause skin burning, irritation, itching, and thinning (upon long-term use). However, not everyone who uses this cream experiences these side effects.
- Wash your hands before and after using Clobeta-GM cream unless you are treating your hands.
- If this medicine gets into your eyes, rinse them with clean water immediately.
- If you experience any skin reactions after applying this cream, inform your doctor immediately.
- Use it only for the condition and for the number of days your doctor set. A potent steroid is not a general-purpose skin cream.
- Apply a thin layer. More cream does not work better; it only increases the side effects.
- Do not cover the treated area with a dressing or tight clothing unless your doctor told you to, as this pushes much more steroid into the body.
- Never use leftover product on a new rash, and never share it with someone else. On an undiagnosed rash, a steroid can make a fungal infection spread.
- Avoid the face, groin, and armpits unless your doctor specifically told you to treat there. Skin is thinner there and absorbs far more.
- If the rash returns as soon as you stop, see your doctor again rather than restarting the cream on your own.
- Wash your hands after applying, unless you're treating your hands.
- Keep the treated skin clean and dry; do not scratch, and do not share towels or clothing if you have a contagious skin infection.
