Sertima 100mg is used for conditions such as depression and other anxiety-related disorders like obsessive-compulsive disorder. Sertima contains Sertraline as its active ingredient. These kinds of me

dications help by controlling the reabsorption of chemicals. Depression is a medical condition that negatively alters how you feel, think, and act. Depression is also called a major depressive disorder and can cause severe symptoms that can affect someone’s day to day life. Uses of Sertima 100mg include treatment of premenstrual dysphoric disorder and panic disorder. The premenstrual dysphoric disorder is an extension of premenstrual symptoms (PMS)- symptoms caused by a hormonal change in the body before menstruation.

Contraindications of Sertima 100 MG

If you are allergic to Sertraline or any other active ingredient present in the medication.
If you are on medications that belong to the monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOI) class.
If your course of MAOI has just been completed. At least 14 days gap is required.

Side effects of Sertima 100 MG

Indigestion
Difficulty in sleeping (Insomnia)

Precautions and Warnings of Sertima 100 MG

Pregnancy

Can I take Sertima during pregnancy?

No, taking Sertima 100 mg during the course of pregnancy is not advised. Your doctor can sit with you and talk to you about the benefits of taking the medication as compared to the risks of taking Sertima.

Breast Feeding

Can I take Sertima while breastfeeding?

No. Sertima is not recommended for mothers who are breastfeeding. There have been limited studies indicating that Sertima may pass into breast milk in small amounts. Hence, it is advised to consult your doctor if you need to take Sertima if you are breastfeeding. Your doctor will inform you about the risks and benefits of taking the medicine.

Driving

Can I drive if I have taken Sertima?

No. Sertima tablets can cause adverse side effects that include your ability to drive. These side effects include having blurry vision, experiencing confusion or having bouts of dizziness. Patients are advised to wait for a couple of hours before driving after taking Sertima. The same caution should be exercised in operating heavy machinery. Avoid driving if you experience any of these symptoms and wait for them to pass away.

Alcohol

Can I consume alcohol with the Sertima?

No. Consuming alcohol with Sertima is not advised. Mixing alcohol with Sertima can lead to adverse reactions like fever, nausea, fatigue, upset stomach and dizziness.

Directions for Use of Sertima 100 MG

Take Sertima according to the directions given to you by your doctor.
The efficacy of Sertima reduces if a tablet is broken down or chewed. Take the tablet as a whole.
You can take Sertima before or after eating food.
You can swallow Sertima as a whole with a glass of water.
Please ensure that you take Sertima at the same time every day. This should be done so that the system has the same level of the medication in the blood.
Do not take Sertima for more time than what is recommended by the doctor.
Do not stop taking Sertima without consulting your doctor.

Ondansetron (prevents nausea and vomiting)- Increases risk of adverse effects.
