Description
Penam injection is a higher-end antibiotic used to treat severe infections caused by various infection-causing bacteria. It contains Meropenem as its active ingredient. Penam injection works by killing bacteria that cause infections.
Penam injection needs to be administered under medical supervision. It is advisable to complete the full course of treatment. If you skip the dose or do not complete the course, it may cause resistance and decrease the effectiveness of immediate treatment.

Penam injection is used for severe, serious and complicated infections caused by bacteria.
Contraindications
- If you are allergic to meropenem or any other ingredients of Penam injection.
- If you are allergic to the class of medicines known as carbapenems.
- If you are allergic to medications like penicillins & cephalosporins.

Storage and disposal
- Store at or below 30°C.
- Protect it if from light and moisture.

- Any unused portion should not be stored and should be disposed of properly.
Dosage
Overdose
Your doctor or nurse will administer Penam injection , therefore it is less likely to provide you with more or less of this medicine. However, if you experience loose motions, nausea, vomiting and stomach pain immediately after taking this injection, inform your doctor as soon as possible....
Missed a Dose
You will be monitored by your doctor or nurse on when the injection should be given to you. It is unlikely that the dose will be missed. However, if you think your doctor or nurse might have missed a dose, inform them....

How Does It Work?
Meropenem works by stopping the formation of the cell wall of bacteria, thus killing the bacteria which causes the infection.
Interactions
Interactions with other medicines
- Penam injection may interact with other medications and provide an altered response to the treatment. Please notify your doctor if you are undergoing any other treatments, over-the-counter medications (that you buy without a prescription) and herbal preparations....
- Patients on anti-gout medicine like probenecid with existing kidney function problems should be cautious.
- Other antibiotics, anti-coagulants and anti-epileptic medicines also should be used with caution when taken along with this injection.
