Medical Description

Mesahenz Tablet contains megestrol acetate. Megestrol acetate belongs to a group of medicines called progestogens and is used to treat certain types of hormone-dependent cancer, which include cancer of the breast. It can reduce the uneasiness caused due to the advanced stage of endometrial and breast cancer. It may also be used to treat certain symptoms of AIDS.

Directions for Use

  • Always take Mesahenz Tablet strictly as your doctor has advised. Tablet should be swallowed with a glass of water.

Storage and disposal

Store Mesahenz Tablet at a temperature below 20°C. Protect from light and moisture. Store out of reach from children. Do not throw away the unused medicine in the household trash. Instead, please ask your pharmacist for safe disposal practices.

Overdose

Please go to the emergency department closest to you in case of overdose. In addition, please carry the product package with you to provide the doctor treating you with the necessary details.

Missed a Dose

If you miss a dose, please take it as soon as you realise it. Then, please skip the missed dose and take the next one if it is time for your next dose. Do not take two doses at a time.

How Does It Work?

Megestrol acetate belongs to the progestin group of medications. Antitumour activity of megestrol acetate involves suppressing luteinising hormone and estrogen release from the anterior pituitary gland. This anti-gonadotropic activity helps against cancer cells.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

  • Concomitant use of Megestrol acetate with warfarin increases the chances of adverse effects of the medicine
  • Concomitant use of dofetilide with megestrol will increase blood levels of dofetilide, which is harmful to the function of the heart
  • Concomitant use of megestrol with immunosuppressive medicine like filgotinib will increase the chances of microbial infections
