How does this medicine work?

Potassium is a mineral the body needs for the heart to beat steadily and for muscles and nerves to work well. When potassium runs low, these functions can suffer. Keylyte syrup adds potassium back into the body, bringing levels up to normal.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

Some medicines can affect the way Keylyte syrup works, and this medicine can affect how other medicines work. Tell your doctor about all the medicines you are taking, including any bought without a prescription. In particular, tell your doctor if you are taking water tablets that hold on to potassium, medicines for high blood pressure, or pain and swelling medicines, as these can change potassium levels in the blood.

Interactions with food items

Salt substitutes and low-salt products often contain potassium. Using a lot of them along with Keylyte syrup can raise potassium too high, so check with your doctor about how much is safe.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

It treats and prevents low potassium levels in the blood, which the body needs for the heart, muscles, and nerves.
No. It is a potassium supplement for low potassium levels, not a treatment for loose motions or dehydration. Ask your doctor for the right treatment.
Only if a doctor advises it. The doctor decides the right amount based on the child's age, weight, and health.
Use it with care and only under a doctor's guidance, as weak kidneys can let potassium build up too high.
