Medical Description

Gufistra tablet is a female sex hormone (estrogen) used in hormone replacement therapy (HRT) to alleviate symptoms associated with menopause, such as hot flushes, vaginal dryness, and itching. It can also help alleviate or reduce symptoms of estrogen deficiency and prevent bone thinning (osteoporosis).

Gufistra tablet should be taken by swallowing it with water. You can take it with or without food, but it is important to take it at the same time each day for optimal effectiveness. Your doctor will determine the appropriate dose and duration of treatment to effectively manage your symptoms.

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember; however, do not skip any doses and complete the full course of treatment. Do not stop taking this medication abruptly without consulting your doctor, as it may affect the medication's effectiveness.

Common side effects of this hormone replacement therapy include headaches, breast pain, irregular vaginal bleeding or spotting, abdominal cramps or bloating, nausea, vomiting, and hair loss.

Contraindications

  • If you are allergic to estradiol or any of the other ingredients of the Gufistra tablet.
  • If you had a history of or have breast cancer.
  • If you have undiagnosed abnormal vaginal bleeding.
  • If you had a history of or are suspected to have oestrogen-dependent tumours such as endometrial cancer.
  • If you have untreated thickening of the endometrial lining.
  • If you have or had a severe liver or renal problem.
  • If you had or have any blood clotting disorder of veins such as venous thromboembolism.
  • If you have any heart-related conditions such as chest pain due to blockage in arteries (myocardial infarction, angina).
  • If you have related disorders such as porphyria, protein C, and protein S deficiency.

  • Concomitant use of Gufistra tablet and anti-fits medicines like phenytoin, primidone, anti-infective medicines like rifampicin, rifabutin and herbal products like St. John's wort can decrease the effect of Gufistra tablet.
  • Anti-HIV medicines like saquinavir, indinavir, etc when used with Gufistra tablet can interfere with the effect of this medicine.
  • Anti-fungal medicines like fluconazole, itraconazole may increase the effect of Gufistra tablet and may increase the risk of side effects.
  • Tell your doctor about all the medicines, supplements or herbal you are currently taking or might take to avoid any possible interaction.
