Medical Description

This eye drop is a combination medicine used to treat bacterial eye infections and reduce inflammation. It contains gatifloxacin, an antibiotic that kills bacteria, and dexamethasone, a steroid that reduces swelling and discomfort.

Contraindications

If you are allergic to gatifloxacin, dexamethasone, or any other ingredients in this medicine, do not use it. Do not use if you have a viral or fungal eye infection, especially herpes simplex, as steroids may worsen these conditions. Do not use if you have glaucoma without consulting your doctor.

Directions for Use

Wash your hands before and after use. Tilt your head back and pull down your lower eyelid to create a small pocket. Install the prescribed number of drops into this pocket. Close your eyes for two to three minutes after instilling. Do not touch the dropper tip to your eye or any surface to prevent contamination.

Storage and disposal

Store this eye drop at room temperature between 15 and 25 degrees Celsius. Keep the bottle tightly closed away from direct sunlight and heat. Do not freeze. Keep out of the reach of children.

  • Finish the entire course even if your eye feels better to prevent infection from returning
  • Do not wear contact lenses while using this medicine or during active eye infection
  • Apply pressure at the corner of your eye for one minute after instilling drops
  • Wait at least 5 to 10 minutes before using other eye medicines
  • Wear sunglasses if your eyes become sensitive to light, as dexamethasone can increase light sensitivity

An overdose of this eye eye drop is highly unlikely when used as directed. If drops are accidentally swallowed, rinse your mouth with water and seek medical attention if symptoms develop. If you think you have taken too much of this medicine, contact your doctor immediately or visit the nearest hospital.

Missed a Dose

If you missed any dose of medicine, take it as soon as you remember. If it's time for your next dose, then skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dose schedule. Do not take a double dose of medicine to compensate for the missed one.

How does this medicine work?

Gatifloxacin kills bacteria by inhibiting essential enzymes needed for bacterial DNA replication. Dexamethasone reduces inflammation, swelling, and discomfort by suppressing the immune response in the eye.
