Precautions and Warnings

Driving

Driving

Do not drive, cycle or use machinery if you feel sleepy, dizzy or less alert after taking this medicine.

Alcohol

Alcohol

Avoid alcohol unless your doctor says it is suitable because it can increase sleepiness and dizziness.

Directions for Use

Swallow the tablet whole with water as prescribed. Do not crush or chew it. Ask a doctor or pharmacist before combining it with another antihistamine, cough or cold product.

Storage and disposal

Keep the tablets in their original pack at room temperature, protected from heat, moisture and direct light. Keep them out of reach of children. Ask a pharmacist about disposal of unused or expired tablets.

Quick Tips

  • Do not drive or operate machinery until you know how it affects you.
  • Check cough, cold and allergy products for another antihistamine before using them.
  • Seek medical advice if itching persists, spreads or has no clear cause.

Dosage

Overdose

Taking too much may cause marked sleepiness, agitation, fast heartbeat, confusion or difficulty passing urine. If you think you have taken too much, contact your doctor immediately or visit the nearest hospital.

Missed a Dose

If you miss any dose, take it when you remember. If it is time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular schedule. Do not take a double dose of medicine.

How does this medicine work?

Dimetindene blocks the action of histamine, a chemical involved in allergic itching, redness, swelling and nasal discharge. It can reduce allergy symptoms but may also cause sleepiness because antihistamines can affect the brain.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

Some medicines can increase sleepiness, dry mouth, difficulty passing urine or other unwanted effects. Tell your doctor or pharmacist about all medicines, supplements and herbal products you use. In particular, mention sleeping medicines, opioid pain medicines, anxiety medicines, muscle relaxants, alcohol and other antihistamines.

Interactions with food items

Alcohol can increase sleepiness and dizziness. Ask your doctor or pharmacist whether alcohol is suitable, and follow advice about food and drink.
