Medical Description

Dependal M Tablet is a combination of two medicines- Furazolidone and Metronidazole. It is used to treat worm and bacterial infection of bowel, mouth, blood, brain, lungs, bone, genital, dental and gynaecological infections. It is also used for prevention of bacterial infection after surgery. It works by killing bacteria responsible for infection by damaging its genetic structure and making changes in its genetic structure. Nausea or vomiting, loose motion or constipation, headache, dizziness are some of the side effects of using this medicine. However, these are temporary and go away on their own. If side effects persist or your infection doesn't improve over time then inform your doctor.

Uses

Dependal M Tablet is used to treat worm and bacterial infection of bowel, mouth, blood, brain, lungs, bone, genital, dental infection, gynaecological infection, infection after surgery, etc. It is also used for prevention of bacterial infection after surgery.

Contraindications

If you are allergic to Furazolidone, Metronidazole or any other ingredients of Dependal M Tablet.

Precautions and Warnings

Pregnancy

Safety of Dependal M Tablet if taken in pregnancy is not known. This medicine should be taken in pregnancy if prescribed by the doctor.

Breast Feeding

Safety of Dependal M Tablet if taken in breastfeeding is not known. This medicine should be taken by lactating mother only if prescribed by the doctor.

Driving

Dependal M Tablet can cause sleepiness, dizziness, confusion, vision problem, etc. Do not drive if these symptoms occur while on this medicine.

Alcohol

Consuming alcohol with Dependal M Tablet can cause skin redness, stomach cramps, vomiting, increase in heartbeat, difficult breathing, fainting and a feeling of tightness in the chest, etc. Avoid alcohol consumption while on this medicine and for 2 to 4 days after stopping this medicine.

Other General Warnings

Talk to your doctor if

You have abnormal sensation, dizziness, seizure after taking this medicine.
You have a brain problem or history of brain problem.
You have liver disease.

Directions for Use

Take Dependal M Tablet with food or after food as prescribed by your doctor.

Storage and disposal

Store Dependal M Tablet at temperature below 30°C in a cool and dry place.
Keep it out of the reach of children and pets.

Dosage

Overdose

Symptoms of overdose of Dependal M Tablet include vomiting, disorientation, balance difficulty, etc. If you have taken too much of this medicine, contact your doctor or reach out to the nearest hospital immediately.

Missed a Dose

If you have missed taking any dose of Dependal M Tablet, take it as soon as you remember. If it's already time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and follow the regular dosing schedule.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

As Dependal M Tablet contains Furazolidone and Metronidazole, any interaction seen with then when taken alone may happen with this combination.
Concomitant use of Dependal M Tablet with warfarin (blood thinner) can cause increased action of warfarin.
Medicines such as lithium, phenobarbital, phenytoin should be used cautiously.
Taking Dependal M Tablet with other medicines such as 5 fluorouracil, ciclosporin, busulfan may affect the activity of Dependal M Tablet.
Inform your doctor about all other medicines, herbal preparations and supplements you are taking before starting with Dependal M Tablet.

Interactions with food items

Taking Dependal M Tablet with (tyramine containing) food such as cheese, meat extract, smoked or pickled meat, poultry or fish, chocolate, coffee, cola etc can cause a severe increase in blood pressure due to furazolidone present in this medicine. Do not eat or drink this food or beverages for 2 weeks after stopping to take this medicine.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Dependal M tablet should be swallowed whole with water or milk. It should be taken with food or after food. Dependal M tablet should not be chewed.

Intake of Dependal M Tablet can cause dark urine due to Metronidazole medicine present in this tablet.

Dependal M Tablet should not be taken for a long duration. If taken for a long duration, it can cause white patches in your mouth, white vaginal discharge, etc. This is a sign of fungal infection. Consult your doctor immediately.

Dependal M Tablet may cause live bacterial vaccines (such as oral typhoid vaccine) to not work properly. Therefore, vaccination should be avoided while on this medicine. Consult your doctor for further guidance.
