Cepodem XP 625 tablet contains a combination of cefpodoxime and clavulanic acid, belonging to the antibiotic class of medicine. It is used for the treatment of bacterial infections of the throat/neck

, lungs, ear, urinary tract and skin. It works by inhibiting the formation of cell walls and killing the various susceptible bacterial organisms. Take Cepodem XP 625 as prescribed by your doctor. The common side effects of Cepodem XP 625 tablet is diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting and gas. If you feel the side effects persist or the condition worsens, you should contact your doctor immediately.

Mode of Action of Cepodem Xp 625mg Tablet

How Does It Work?

  • Cefpodoxime controls the growth of bacteria and kills them by inhibiting the synthesis of the bacterial cell wall. However, the bacteria make an enzyme (beta-lactamases) that can destroy Cefpodoxime.
  • Clavulanic acid inactivates this enzyme and hence helps Cefpodoxime to function optimally.

  • Concomitant use of acid-lowering medicines like antacids, ranitidine, cimetidine with Cepodem XP 625 tablet decrease the effect of this medicine.
  • Concomitant use of Probenecid with Cepodem XP 625 tablet increases the effect of this medicine.
  • When medicines known to cause harm to the kidney such as amphotericin-B, vancomycin, amikacin are administered along with Cepodem XP 625 tablet may increase the risk of kidney diseases.
