Uses
- As per USFDA, Arifine Tablet is used for the following conditions:
- Treatment of Schizophrenia (manages both positive and negative symptoms like hallucination, delusions, lack of pleasure, memory problems, cognitive problems, etc.)
- Management of sudden manic and mixed episodes associated with bipolar disorder
- Adjunctive therapy for major depressive disorder
- Irritability associated with autism disorder
- Treatment of Tourette syndrome (repetitive movements or sounds/tics)
Contraindications
- It is contraindicated in the following cases:
- If you have an allergic reaction to any of the ingredients of Arifine Tablet
- If you are an elderly patient who already has dementia-related psychosis, Arifine medicine can cause a severe reaction and even early death
- If you are taking other antipsychotic medications
- If you have any suicidal thoughts and behaviour changes; especially in children
- If you are pregnant, planning for a pregnancy or breastfeeding
- If you have impulse control tendencies like addictive behaviour, inform your doctor. They may change Arifine medicine or adjust the dose
- If you have tardive dyskinesia (involuntary movements) or neuroleptic malignant syndrome

- Blurred vision
- Constipation
- Nausea
- Dizziness
- Inability to stay still
- Increased saliva secretion

- You have an existing mild liver condition; you may need some dose adjustment.

- You have any heart illness or stroke.
- You have severe respiratory disease.
- You have a low white blood cell count.
- You are an elderly patient over 65 years. This medicine stays longer and causes increased side effects due to slow metabolism.
Directions for Use
- Take the Arifine Tablet precisely as directed by the doctor.
- Do not increase the dosage of Arifine Tablet, even if you cannot notice its effects.
- Try not to break the tablet or chew the tablet.
- Swallow the medicine as a whole.
- Do not take Arifine Tablets with other medicines without informing your doctor.
- Do not discontinue Arifine medication abruptly, as it can have adverse effects.

Interactions
Interactions with other medicines
- Arifine Tablets can interact with certain high blood pressure or heart medicines like captopril, enalapril and atenolol. They can change the effectiveness of the medicines.
- Inform your doctor if you are under treatment for other psychiatric conditions like depression, anxiety, etc. The medicines used for these conditions can interact with Arifine tablets and cause severe reactions.
- Arifine medicine can react with certain heart medications for abnormal heart rhythm like amiodarone, quinidine, etc.
- Arifine Tablet also lowers the effects of some fungal, bacterial and HIV medications. Notify your doctor if you are using them.
- This medicine can also interact with certain seizure medications and may lower its effectiveness and precipitate seizures.
- Arifine tablets can cause increased drowsiness when used with allergy medicines, sleeping pills, opioid pain relievers, muscle relaxants, and other sleep-inducing medicines.
- Do not take St. John’s wort, a medicinal herb that treats depression, with this medicine. Together, they can cause serotonin toxicity and other life-threatening side effects.
Interactions with food items
- Avoid taking grapefruit and its juice; grapefruit reduces the effect of Arifine medicine.
- You can take Arifine medicine with or without consuming food.
