Medical Description

Acgel is a topical antibiotic lotion used for acne and related bacterial skin infections. Its active ingredient is clarithromycin.

Contraindications

If you are allergic to clarithromycin, other macrolide antibiotics, or any ingredient of this medicine, do not use it. For external use only. Avoid the eyes, mouth, and broken skin. Tell your doctor if you have liver disease or an irregular heartbeat.

Precautions and Warnings

Pregnancy

Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or could be pregnant. Use topical clarithromycin during pregnancy only on medical advice.

Breast Feeding

Missed a Dose

If you missed any dose of medicine, apply it as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next application, then skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dose schedule. Do not take a double dose of medicine to compensate for the missed one.

Clarithromycin blocks the protein-making process bacteria need to grow. Applied to the skin, it helps reduce susceptible bacteria and inflammation around acne lesions.
