Medical Description

Paxitor Cr tablets are most commonly used for the treatment of major depression, obsessive-compulsive disorders and panic disorders. Obsessive-compulsive disorder is characterised by irrational thoughts and fears that lead to compulsive behaviours. Paxitor Cr tablet is composed of paroxetine. Paxitor Cr tablet is a prescription medicine, and it is to be taken exactly as suggested by the physician. Do not take in more than prescribed amounts. Consult your physician immediately if you experience any side effects, worsening of your condition, or allergic side effects. Don't give the medicine to anyone else, even if they have the same symptoms or condition as you. Also, report your doctor about your medical history and if you are taking any new medicines to avoid any drug interactions. Don't stop taking the medicine suddenly without consulting your doctor, as it can cause withdrawal effects like worsening your condition.

Contraindications

Pregnancy

Paxitor Cr tablets are not recommended during pregnancy. There have been reports of seizures, temperature instability, feeding difficulty, vomiting, hypoglycaemia, tremor, irritability, lethargy, constant crying, somnolence and difficulty in sleeping associated with the use of Paxitor Cr tablets during the first trimester. However, consult your doctor for evaluating potential risks and benefits before using the medicine.

Breast Feeding

It may be unsafe to use Paxitor Cr tablets while breastfeeding. This medicine can be excreted into human breast milk. You must seek medical consultation to decide whether to discontinue nursing or discontinue the medicine.

Driving

No. It’s not advisable to drive or operate any heavy machinery that requires high mental alertness when taking Paxitor Cr tablets. It can cause side effects like dizziness, blurred vision, impairment in motor skills. Do not drive if these symptoms occur.

Alcohol

Paxitor Cr tablets should not be used together with alcohol. Interaction of alcohol with this medicine can cause increased dizziness, drowsiness and lightheadedness.

Talk to your doctor if
You are breastfeeding or pregnant. You conceive during the course of Paxitor Cr tablets or are planning a pregnancy. Your symptoms do not get resolved, or your condition worsens. You have long term cardiac, liver, and kidney disease. You have an addiction to alcohol or medicines. You have a history of depression or anxiety.

Directions for Use

  • Always take the Paxitor Cr tablet exactly as directed by your doctor.
  • You can take the Paxitor Cr tablet with or without food.
  • Swallow Paxitor Cr tablet with a glass of water. Do not chew or crush it.
  • Read the label instructions carefully.
  • Dosage should be taken in recommended amounts at a particular time in a day to get maximum benefits and desired clinical effect.

Storage and disposal

Store Paxitor Cr tablet at room temperature below 30℃. Store it in an airtight container, away from the reach of children and pets. Keep the Paxitor Cr tablet away from direct sunlight, heat, and moisture. Keep your tablets in the packaging until it is time to take them. Do not throw away the medicines with household waste. Dispose of the expired/unused medicine immediately as biomedical waste. Do not use it post the date of expiry.

Overdose

Do not take Paxitor Cr tablets in more than prescribed doses. Symptoms of overdosage can be fever, involuntary muscle contractions, nausea, vomiting, drowsiness, seizures and confusion. In case of an overdose of Paxitor Cr tablets, seek emergency medical treatment and contact your doctor immediately.

Missed a Dose

Take the missed dose of Paxitor Cr tablets just and when you remember. If it’s almost time for your next dose, wait until then to take the medicine and skip the missed dose. Do not alter the recommended dosage, as it can have adverse effects.

How Does It Work?

Paxitor Cr tablet exerts its mechanism of action by producing calming effects in the brain. Serotonin is a chemical neurotransmitter in the brain that carries signals from one part of the brain to another. By increasing the availability of serotonin in the brain, it can be used to treat anxiety. In addition, serotonin acts as a mood stabiliser and helps regulate one's mood, anxiety and sleep.

Interactions with other medicines

  • To avoid undesirable side effects of drug interaction, inform your doctor about all medicines and supplements you are currently taking.
  • Paxitor Cr tablet can cause adverse reactions when taken with the following medicines:
  • Interaction with other Monoamine oxidase Inhibitors like triptans, tramadol, linezolid, methylthioninium chloride (methylene blue), lithium, pethidine can increase the risk of serotonin syndrome.
  • Interaction with mivacurium & suxamethonium may reduce plasma cholinesterase activity resulting in a prolongation of the neuromuscular blocking action.
  • Interaction with pravastatin may lead to an increase in blood glucose levels.
  • Interaction with thioridazine & pimozide increases the risk of QT interval prolongation leading to changes in heart rhythm.

  • Unless your physician suggests, there is no need to avoid any food or drink when taking the Paxitor Cr tablet.

Paxitor Cr tablets should be used with caution. In short-term studies, it increases the risk of suicidal thoughts and behaviours in pediatric and young adult patients. Therefore, closely monitor all antidepressant-treated patients for clinical worsening and the emergence of suicidal thoughts and behaviours.

No. You shouldn’t stop taking this medicine suddenly without consulting your doctor, even if you feel well. It can cause withdrawal symptoms like dizziness, sensory disturbances, sleep disturbances, agitation or anxiety, nausea, tremor, confusion, sweating, headache, diarrhoea, irritability and visual disturbances. If you stop the treatment too early, the symptoms may return.

Your doctor will tell you how long to take Paxitor Cr tablets. You should not stop using Paxitor Cr tablets unless your doctor has told you to. Even though this medicine is not addictive, you should not take it for more than the prescribed amount of time.
