Herpex cream is an antiviral medicine containing aciclovir (acyclovir) as the active ingredient. This medicine acts by stopping or killing of growth of viruses, thus preventing the spread of the infe

ction. It should be applied as directed by the doctor for the prescribed duration. This cream should not be used by children below 12 years of age. Avoid applying it inside the eyes, nose, mouth and vagina as it may cause irritation. Inform the doctor if you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or are breastfeeding and about your detailed medical history.

Uses of Herpex 5 %W/W

Herpex cream is used for the treatment of viral infections of the skin such as herpes infection of the mouth, eyelids, eyes, genital herpes (pain and blisters in private parts), etc.
Herpex cream is also used to treat chickenpox, shingles (herpes zoster).

Contraindications of Herpex 5 %W/W

If you are allergic to aciclovir, valaciclovir or other ingredients present along with this medicine.

Pregnancy

Can I apply Herpex cream during pregnancy?

You should consult your doctor before applying Herpex cream during pregnancy. This medicine is to be applied on topical surfaces and the quantities which might get absorbed from the skin is too little and there are rare chances of absorption. Still, this medicine should be used under medical supervision by a pregnant woman.

Breast Feeding

Can I apply Herpex cream while breastfeeding?

Herpex cream should not be applied to the breast of breastfeeding mothers or elsewhere on large areas of skin or for a prolonged period of time. If the lesion is near the breast, avoid breastfeeding the child.

Driving

Can I drive if I have applied Herpex cream?

Herpex cream is a topical preparation and is unlikely to affect the ability to drive.

Alcohol

Can I consume alcohol with Herpex cream?

There is no known interaction between alcohol and the Herpex cream. Consult your physician if you have a habit of regular drinking.

Other General Warnings

Talk to your doctor if

You are an immunocompromised patient.
Avoid contact with eyes.
You should apply the cream on the face and lips, incase of herpes labialis (oral herpes infection).
This cream should be applied externally on the skin surfaces. Do not apply it inside the mouth, nose or vagina.
Herpex cream should not be used in children below 12 years of age.

Herpex cream works by interfering in the virus structure by inhibiting the enzyme required for its multiplication which results in stopping the growth and killing the viruses.

Directions for Use of Herpex 5 %W/W

Use this cream as directed by your doctor.
For external use only, apply it on a healthy skin surface free from cuts and wounds.
Wash your hands before and after using this medicine unless your hands are the area to be treated.
In case your eyes come in contact with this medicine, rinse your eyes with clean water immediately.
