Mode of Action
How Does It Work?
Triclofos works by reducing brain activity and allowing sleep. This increases sleep quality and makes your child feel more peaceful. Triclofos has hypnotic properties that transform into an active molecule in the body that helps to cause sleepiness in the brain. It reduces the time it takes to fall asleep and increases the deep sleep hours.
Interactions
Interactions with other medicines
- Combining Triclofos with doxepin increases the risk of serotonin syndrome, a rare but deadly illness characterised by confusion, hallucinations, seizures, dramatic fluctuations in blood pressure, elevated heart rate, fever, heavy sweating, shivering or trembling, impaired vision, and other symptoms.
- Drowsiness, blurred vision, dry mouth, heat intolerance, flushing, decreased sweating, difficulty in urinating, abdominal cramping, constipation, irregular heartbeat, confusion, and memory issues may occur when Triclofos is used with imipramine.
- Warfarin with Triclofos can interact and cause bleeding.
- Triclofos and furosemide can have mild interactions. Consult your doctor.
Dosage
Overdose
- Triclofos overdose might result in respiratory arrest, slowed heart rate, and low blood pressure. Cardiopulmonary arrest, allergic reactions, seizures, and medication dependence are all major overdose effects of Triclofos. In this situation, contact your child's doctor right away.
Missed a Dose
If you miss a dose of Triclofos, make sure you take it as soon as possible. Skip the missed dose in case the delay is more than 12 hours, or it's time for the next dose. In that case, return to your regular dosage. Do not take an extra dose to make up for a missed dose.
