Description
Vicox Tablet is a prescription medicine. It is used in the treatment of Tuberculosis. It contains four major components, isoniazid (INH), ethambutol, rifampicin, and pyrazinamide (PZA). These chemica
l salts work in a synchronised manner to give maximum efficiency of the medicine against the symptoms of tuberculosis. Always take this medicine at the same time every day. Take it on an empty stomach in the amount and schedule as prescribed by the doctor. Do not take Vicox Tablet with alcohol. Inform your doctor if you are suffering from some other disease or condition or take any other medication before starting with this Anti-tubercular medicine. Eat a healthy and balanced diet to reduce the side effects and nausea. The side effects of this medicine are nausea, vomiting, visual disturbances, change in colour of urine, etc. These symptoms usually go away after some time but talk to your doctor if they persist for longer than usual. Do not stop the medicine abruptly or in between the course, even if you start to feel better. Otherwise, your body would become resistant to this medicine and the bacteria that cause Tuberculosis.

Contraindications
- It is not advised to take Vicox Tablet if you are suffering from the following diseases or conditions:
- Allergy to isoniazid,
- Previous history of medication of any of the four chemical salts- isoniazid, rifampicin, ethambutol, and pyrazinamide,
- Hepatitis (liver disease),
- Pregnancy,
- AIDS (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome),
- Jaundice (a condition where there is a yellowish pigmentation of the skin and white areas of the eyes),
- Gout (a condition in which there is swelling of joints because of excessive uric acid in the body),
- Hepatotoxicity (a condition where there is inflammation of the liver),
- Diabetes mellitus,
- Obesity.

Mode of Action
How Does It Work?
Vicox Tablet consists of four ingredients, isoniazid (INH), ethambutol, rifampicin, and pyrazinamide (PZA). These four chemical components work together dynamically to treat tuberculosis. Pyrazinamide is considered the first-line therapeutic agent, i.e. the main element to fight the bacteria named M.tuberculosis, which causes this disease. PZA gets converted into pyrazinoic acid, which slowly decreases the tuberculosis bacteria's growth.
INH can stop the work of many enzymes. Here, it works on a component called mycolic acid. This acid is used to build the bacteria's cell wall; when there is no cell wall, the bacteria will not be able to survive.
Rifampicin is a partially constructed artificially antibiotic that is a very effective component in Vicox Tablet.
It works by inhibiting the formation and reproduction of the bacteria. It adheres to the walls of the beta subunit of a DNA-dependent enzyme called RNA polymerase. One unique feature of rifampicin is that it doesn't bind to the RNA polymerase of human cells; hence it only affects the bacterial cell production and multiplication and not the normal cells of the human body. Ethambutol aids in stopping the new growth of the Tuberculosis bacteria by inhibiting their ability to multiply. All these are used in different quantities because these bacteria can outgrow the medicine's ability to control their growth and decrease disease invasion....
Directions for Use
- Swallow the medicine as a whole, along with the water. Do not chew, crush or bite it.
- Keep it in the original packing to avoid wastage and spill.
- Take it at the same time every day.
- Take it on an empty stomach.
- Do not miss any dose of the medicine.
- Take a complete and balanced diet to avoid certain side effects.
- Do not stop the course of the treatment in between, even if you start to feel better.

Interactions with other medicines
- Inform your doctor if you are suffering from any of the following diseases or conditions before starting the course of this anti-tubercular medicine course because certain interactions may cause unexpected complications and can even be fatal. ...
- Antibiotics like erythromycin -interactions may cause abrupt rashes and allergies. It can even enhance nausea and vomiting.
- Antifungal medicines like fluconazole- interactions can cause decreased effectiveness of both medicines.
- Antiretroviral medicines like abacavir- interactions between them are highly not recommended because they can induce severe visual impairments, restlessness, and confusion.
- Medicines for kidney diseases like isoniazid, prednisolone, etc can decrease the efficiency of Vicox Tablet and also make tuberculosis causing bacteria resistant to the medicine.
- It is also advised to inform your doctor if you are taking any other form of medicine like homoeopathic or any alternative form of medicine- supplements or ayurvedic. Any unknown interactions can be disturbing and may even be fatal, if not treated or managed in due time....
Interactions with food items
- When you take the Vicox Tablet, avoid cheesy and fried foods rich in tyramine. Take a good and healthy diet to reduce the intensity of certain side effects. Also, avoid beer and other types of alcohol....
Storage and disposal
Keep Vicox Tablet out of reach of children. Store the medicine in its original packing and do not transfer them to any container. Keep them away from direct sunlight. Store them in a cool and dry place. Do not freeze the medicine, which is in liquid form. After using this medicine, if there are tablets left, contact the pharmacies and the chemist shops for exchange facilities....

Missed a Dose
