Medical Description

Losakind 50mg Tab or losartan, also known as angiotensin II receptor antagonist, is a medicine used for lowering increased blood pressure.

Uses of Losakind 50mg Tab

  • High blood pressure
  • Chronic heart failure
  • Heart attack causing dysfunction of the left lower chamber of the heart
  • Kidney disease due to diabetes

Contraindications of Losakind 50mg Tab

  • Pregnancy
  • Allergy to the medicine
  • Narrowing blood vessels in kidney or renal artery stenosis
  • Liver disease
  • Kidney disease

Side effects of Losakind 50mg Tab

  • Losakind 50mg Tab can cause side effects like an excess drop in blood pressure, increased blood potassium level, low blood sugar level, vertigo, anaemia, changes in kidney function or kidney failure, fatigue, headache and dizziness

Pregnancy

Alcohol

Can I consume alcohol with the medicine?
A:
Drinking alcohol can increase the side effects of the medicine and a cause sudden drop in blood pressure, sedation, drowsiness.

Other General Warnings

Talk to your doctor if
  • You feel symptoms like swelling of the face, lips and throat; vomiting or diarrhoea
  • You suffer from the narrowing of blood vessels that lead to the kidneys
  • You have recently had a kidney transplant
  • You have suffered heart failure with or without kidney failure
  • You have irregular heart rhythm/cardiac arrhythmia or any other heart problem
  • You have a kidney disease associated with diabetes or high blood pressure

Mode of Action of Losakind 50mg Tab

How Does It Work?

An enzyme named angiotensin II is responsible for balancing or increasing the blood pressure when necessary. The medicine acts to block the receptor or protein the enzyme binds to, causing the blood vessels to relax and lower blood pressure.

Overdose

Immediately go to emergency care if symptoms like increased heart rate, low blood pressure, dizziness, increased blood potassium level, kidney impairment or loss of consciousness occur.

Missed a Dose

Take the missed dose as early as you remember but don't take it with the next dose.
