Exiplon Syrup is used to treat dry cough and runny nose associated with flu or allergies of the upper respiratory tract. The active ingredients in Exiplon Syrup are chlorpheniramine maleate and codei
ne. Chlorpheniramine is an antihistamine that treats the allergy by working on certain sites in the body and blocking the production of those substances that cause sensitiveness to the allergens. Codeine is an opioid that works by suppressing the cough-inducing centre in the brain. The two ingredients bring relief from allergies, pain, and cold and cough. Side effects of Exiplon Syrup include sleepiness, headache, feeling sick, low blood pressure, constipation, and stomach pain. Directions for use of Exiplon Syrup should be strictly followed. It is not advisable for children under twelve. The active ingredient codeine in Exiplon Syrup has the potential to cause dependency. It should be taken in the dosage recommended by the doctor. Exiplon Syrup may cause serious breathing complications, coma, and even death if consumed in a higher dosage or used with other opioid-containing medicines.

- If you had an allergic reaction to any opioid class medicine
- If you have a blockage in the gut

How Does It Work?
Directions for Use of Exiplon Syrup 100ml
- Take Exiplon Syrup exactly as advised by your doctor.
- Do not exceed the dosage, even if you cannot notice the effects of this medicine.
- Exiplon Syrup is to be taken orally using the measuring cup given in the package.
- Clean the cup with water after each dose.
- This medicine can be taken with or without food as food does not change its absorption.

Interactions with other medicines
- Exiplon Syrup can interact with many medicines and cause adverse side effects. It is advised to inform the doctor of all medication being taken to be checked for possible interaction issues. The following medicines are known to interact with Exiplon Syrup....
- Medicines used to treat depression, specifically monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) like iproniazid, can cause life-threatening reactions if given along with Exiplon Syrup. It can cause dizziness, high temperature, abnormal heartbeat, loss of consciousness, and coma. These medicines should be given with a gap of at least fourteen days....
- Medicines belonging to the group of opioids used to treat severe pain such as fentanyl, morphine, oxycodone, and tramadol should not be used concomitantly with Exiplon Syrup. It increases the severity of side effects and may even cause loss of consciousness and death....
- Medicines of the benzodiazepine group used in treating depression, such as clonazepam and alprazolam, can cause excessive sleepiness, serious breathing difficulty, coma, and even death.
- Medicines used to treat epilepsy, such as phenytoin, have raised levels in the blood when given with Exiplon Syrup.
- Medicines used for treating stiffness and pain of the muscles, such as metaxalone and diazepam, can cause increased side effects if used with Exiplon Syrup.
- Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) used for mental illnesses can cause a serious condition called Serotonin Syndrome if taken with Exiplon Syrup.
- Medicines used as cholinergic in Alzheimer's disease, urine or gut problems such as atropine, dicyclomine and belladonna can cause paralysis of the gut with Exiplon.
- Medicines used as water pills are reduced in efficacy when co-administered with Exiplon Syrup.
