Bleomycin injection is a medicine used to treat different types of cancer, including cancers of the skin, head, neck, oesophagus, voice box, cervix, penis, testicles, lymph nodes (like Hodgkin’s disease), and a rare skin cancer called mycosis fungoides. It’s usually given in combination with surgery or radiation to improve results and help manage symptoms.
This medicine works by damaging the DNA in cancer cells, stopping them from growing and spreading. It helps slow the disease down and makes the cancer more responsive to other treatments. It is given by a doctor or nurse in a hospital or clinic, and you should not try to use it on your own.
Some people may experience side effects such as nausea, vomiting, fatigue, weight loss, or loss of appetite. In rare cases, it can cause lung problems, especially in people who smoke, have had radiation therapy, or are over 70 years old. If you experience symptoms such as coughing, chest pain, or trouble breathing, please notify your doctor immediately.
Bleomycin injection can interact with other medicines, such as cisplatin, G-CSF, and certain cancer treatments, which may increase the risk of lung problems. Directions for Use
Storage and disposal
- Store Bleomycin injection below 25°C, protect it from direct sunlight.
- Do not store above 25°C or freeze.
- Keep it away from children and pets.
- Discard the unused medicine.
Dosage
Overdose
- Bleomycin injection will be given to you by a doctor or nurse. Therefore, it is less likely that you may get an overdose of the medicine.
- Symptoms of overdose may include an acute reaction, which would probably include hypotension, fever, rapid pulse and general symptoms of shock. If you experience symptoms right after taking the medication, seek medical help.
