Q: Shelcal HD vs Shelcal HD 12, what is the difference?

A: Shelcal HD 12 tablet is used to treat conditions like low blood calcium levels, osteoporosis, osteomalacia/rickets, decreased parathyroid gland activity (hypoparathyroidism), muscle disease and low vitamin B12 levels. Shelcal HD tablet, on the other hand, is a dietary supplement primarily used to treat osteoporosis and address vitamin D and calcium deficiency. Calcium and Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) are both present in them. Shelcal HD 12 contains vitamin B12, whereas Shelcal HD does not, which is the main distinction between the two. It is advised to speak with a healthcare provider for your specific condition and only take the medicine advised by your doctor.

Q: Shelcal HD vs Shelcal M, what is the difference?

A: Shelcal HD and Shelcal M are distinct vitamin and mineral supplements with specific compositions and uses. Shelcal HD is primarily used to treat calcium and vitamin D deficiencies and address conditions like osteoporosis. It contains calcium and vitamin D3 (Cholecalciferol), focusing on promoting bone health and rectifying nutrient deficiencies. On the other hand, Shelcal M is a comprehensive supplement that combines calcium and vitamin D3 with magnesium, zinc and manganese. In addition to supporting calcium absorption, Shelcal M provides these extra minerals for overall well-being. You should only take the medicine prescribed by your doctor, as the same shall be based on your diagnosis and medical history.

Q: What is the difference between Shelcal HD and Shelcal 500?

A: Shelcal HD tablet contains calcium and vitamin D3 and Shelcal 500 tablet also contains calcium and vitamin D3. The only difference between these two is the amount of vitamin D3. Shelcal HD tablet has a higher amount of vitamin D3 compared to Shelcal 500. These medicines are given in case of calcium and vitamin D3 deficiencies and for treatment and prevention of bone related disorders such as osteoporosis. You should take medicine as advised by your doctor and the same shall be based on your diagnosis and your medical history.

Q: Are there any side effects of taking Shelcal HD tablet?

A: You may experience constipation, nausea, vomiting and stomach upset after taking this supplement, though not everyone gets these side effects.

Q: What are the sources of vitamin D?

A: Very few food items such as cod liver oil, cheese, egg yolk, etc., are good sources of vitamin D. Vitamin D is produced in our skin when we are exposed to the sun. Sun exposure from 10 am to 3 pm at least twice a week for 10-30 minutes can help prevent vitamin deficiency.

Q: Can Shelcal HD be harmful if taken in excess?

A: Yes, taking too much Shelcal HD can be harmful. Q: Why should one take vitamin D?

A: With the current lifestyle, we are all based indoors in air-conditioned offices, houses and cars, with hardly any exposure to the sun. This is leading to increased vitamin D deficiency in all age groups and more fractures and muscle weakness. There is a lot of research happening which suggests that vitamin D may have a role in preventing the onset of diabetes, cancers like colon and breast and help build immunity.
