Uses
- Moderate to severe acute and chronic pain
Contraindications
- If you’re allergic to Tapentadol or any of the ingredients present in the medicine.
- If you are taking medications classified as Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors (class of medicine used in the treatment of depression).
- If you have asthma or severe breathing problems.
- If you have paralytic ileus (condition where muscle contractions that move food through your intestines are temporarily paralyzed).
- If you have acute kidney or liver impairment

Directions for Use
- Tapal tablets must be taken as per the doctor’s prescription, preferably at the same time every day.
- Tapal tablets can be taken with or without food.
- Make sure to swallow the Tapal tablet as a whole and do not chew, crush or break them.
- Do not suddenly stop taking medicine without prior consultation with your doctor, as you may develop withdrawal symptoms.
- After taking the Tapal tablet, if you experience sweating, increased pulse, difficulty breathing, or any discomfort that doesn’t go away, immediately consult your doctor or the nearest emergency hospital.

Interactions
Interactions with other medicines
- Tapal tablets may adversely interact with medications to treat depression such as paroxetine to cause fits and seizures and may even lead to coma (as the brain activity is suppressed significantly).
- Tapal tablets may cause breathing difficulties, increased sleepiness, and even coma when taken along with medicines to treat pain (morphine), medicines to treat cough (codeine) and medicines for allergy (cetirizine, diphenhydramine).
- Tapal tablets become less effective when taken with medicines to treat tuberculosis like rifampicin.
Interactions with food items
- Tapal tablet may interact adversely with
- St. John’s Wort (herbal medicine for depression) -Tapal tablet may increase the central nervous system depressant activities of St. John's Wort
- Tyramine containing dietary supplements (milk, cheese, oats, chicken, tuna fish and nuts)- suppress the brain activity abnormally and even cause coma.
