Contraindications of Indapamide
When should one not use Indapamide
- If you are allergic to this medicine or any other Sulfonamide medicine
- If you have severe kidney or liver disease
- If you have low blood potassium level
Side effects of Indapamide
Common side effects of this drug are:
- Low blood potassium level leading to muscle weakness
- Skin rash
- Swelling of face, lips or tongue, throat which causes difficulty in breathing
- Swelling around the eyes, hands or feet
- Skin reactions including intense skin rash, redness of skin, severe itching, blistering, peeling and swelling of the skin, inflammation of mucous membranes
- Irregular heartbeat
- Inflammation in pancreas and liver

How Does It Work?
This medicine is used to treat high blood pressure and works by causing the kidneys to get rid of unneeded water and salt from the body into the urine.

- Diuretics or water tablets like Bumetanide, Furosemide, Amiloride, Spironolactone
- Medicines to treat irregular heartbeat like Lidocaine, Flecainide
- Intravenous Erythromycin, an antibiotic
- Medicines used in the treatment of protozoal infections like Pentamidine
- Medicines used to treat high blood pressure like Prazosin
- Medicines for fits or epilepsy such as Oxcarbazepine
- Medicines used to treat mental disorders
- Muscle relaxant (to treat muscle stiffness occurring in disease such as multiple sclerosis) like Baclofen
- Medicines treat high blood pressure
- Medicines used in the management of arthritis (Non- Steroidal Anti Inflammatory Drugs) such as Aspirin and Ibuprofen
- Medicines used to treat fungal infections like Amphotericin B
- Calcium tablets or other calcium supplements
Interactions with food items
The patient should not eat or drink grapefruit or its juice along with this medicine as it can increase the side effects of this medicine.

Dosage of Indapamide
Overdose
Overdose symptoms may include nausea, weakness, giddiness, dry mouth, thirst and muscle pain or weakness. Consult your doctor if you have any side effects.
Missed a Dose
Take medicine as soon as you remember the missed dose. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to the regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose.
