Serin 50mg Tablets
Description
Serin 50 mg tablet is primarily used to treat depression. It is also used in the treatment of panic disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). This medicine contains sertraline 50 mg in tablet
form. It belongs to a group of medications called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) that act on the mood-elevating chemicals in the brain. The mode of action of Serin 50 mg tablets is by increasing the levels of those chemicals in the brain that are responsible for mood, thoughts of reward, and learning. Side effects of Serin 50 mg tablets include sleepiness, headache, vomiting, tremors, agitation, weight loss, anxiety and dizziness. Serin 50 mg tablets should be given with caution to those under 24 due to the increased risk of suicidal thoughts in this age group, especially those with major depressive disorder. This medicine is not given to children under six years of age. While stopping this medicine, care should be taken to withdraw it gradually to avoid withdrawal symptoms of Serin 50 mg symptoms, such as agitation, headache, confusion, emotional breakdown, and electric shock-like feelings in the body.

- As per CDSCO, Serin 50 mg tablets are used in the treatment of:
- Major Depressive Disorder
- Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
- Panic disorder with or without agoraphobia (fear of open spaces)
- Social anxiety disorder
- Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
- Premenstrual Dysphoric Depression
Contraindications
- Do not take Serin 50 mg tablets or use caution:
- If you had an allergic reaction to Serin 50 mg tablets
- If you had an allergic reaction to any inactive ingredients in the tablet
- If you take any other medicines
- If you have taken any medicines from the class of monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) in the last 14 days
- If you have taken the tablet pimozide
- If you have been diagnosed with schizophrenia
- If you are less than six years of age

- Serin 50 mg tablet is to be taken by mouth with a glass of water.
- Take the tablet whole.
- This medicine can be taken with or without food as food does not change its absorption.
- You should follow the doctor's instructions about the time and dose of the medicine.
Interactions
Interactions with other medicines
- Medicines used to treat depression, specifically monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) such as selegiline and moclobemide, can cause life-threatening reactions when given with Serin 50 mg tablets. This may cause dizziness, agitation, abnormal heartbeat, loss of consciousness, and coma. A gap should be maintained when a switchover is made from one medicine to another....
- Medicines having similar action on the brain hormones such as amphetamines, tryptophan, and fenfluramine should not be given with Serin 50 mg tablets, as it may cause severe toxic effects.
- Medicine used in treating tics such as pimozide should not be given with Serin 50 mg tablets due to the potential of toxic effects.
- Medicines used in chronic pain such as fentanyl and opioids should be avoided with Serin 50 mg tablets due to increased side effects.
- Medicines belonging to the same group as Serin 50 mg tablets should not be given together to avoid toxicity.
- Medicines used to control migraines such as sumatriptan may cause anxiety and incoordination when given with Serin 50 mg tablets.
- Medicines used to control acidity, such as pantoprazole and omeprazole, may increase the action of Serin 50 mg tablets.
- Medicines used in the heart and blood pressure conditions such as metoprolol, atenolol, and diltiazem decrease the clearance of sertraline from the body.
- Medicine used to prevent pain during surgery, such as mivacurium, gets prolonged in its effect when administered to persons taking Serin 50 mg tablets.
- Medicines used to treat bacterial and fungal infections such as clarithromycin, erythromycin, itraconazole, and fluconazole cause a moderate increase in the action of Serin 50 mg tablets.
- Medicines like warfarin, ibuprofen, and acetylsalicylic acid increase the risk of bleeding when given with Serin 50 mg tablets.
