Stresnil 0.25mg Tablet Description
Stresnil 0.25mg Tablet is useful in treating anxiety and panic disorders. Further, Stresnil helps in Insomnia, which means the inability to sleep at night. Stresnil is a combination of Alprazolam, a
sedative medicine and Melatonin, a natural hormone responsible for controlling sleep patterns. Anxiety is characterised by restlessness, excessive worry and fear about daily situations. People suffering from anxiety may feel rapid heart rate, breathlessness, perspiration and tiredness. A person suffering from Insomnia cannot fall asleep easily or stay asleep for long. Stresnil induces sleep after 1-2 hours of its consumption.

Uses of Stresnil 0.25mg Tablet
- As per CDSCO, the combination medicine Stresnil is used to treat chronic Insomnia and anxiety and panic disorder for short-term management.
Contraindications of Stresnil 0.25mg Tablet
- If you had an allergic reaction to any of the components of this tablet.
- If you are taking any other medicine which can increase eye pressure.
- If you are taking any other sedative medications.
- If you are suffering from liver or kidney disease.
- If you are diagnosed with autoimmune conditions like Rheumatoid Arthritis, Myasthenia Gravis, Multiple Sclerosis, Lupus, etc.
- If you are taking antifungal medicines.

How Does It Work?
Stresnil tablet has two components; Alprazolam works by acting positively on a chemical messenger in the brain called GABA, which suppresses the excessive, persistent and abnormal activity of brain cells. Directions for Use of Stresnil 0.25mg Tablet
- Stresnil 0.25mg tablet should be taken as a full tablet, with water, not to chew or crush in the mouth.
- It can be taken after food to avoid most of its side effects.
- Stresnil 0.25mg tablet should be taken at a fixed time every day, 1-2 hours before going to sleep at night.
Interactions of Stresnil 0.25mg Tablet
Interactions with other medicines
- Tricyclic Antidepressants like Fluvoxamine and Imipramine
- Antihypertensive medicines
- NSAIDs like Naproxen Diclofenac and Ibuprofen
- Oestrogens used in Contraceptives and Hormone Replacement Therapy
- Quinolones or Rifampicin (Antibiotics)
- Herbal remedies for Insomnia, if taken along with Stresnil 0.25mg tablet, can increase the sedating effects. Other medicines like Tryptophan supplements, Zaleplon, Zolpidem, and Zopiclone can lead to deep sleep, resulting in difficulty waking up. You need to tell your doctor if you are taking blood thinners like Warfarin....

- Caffeine-containing drinks like tea, cola, coffee shouldn't be consumed as they reduce Strensil’s effectiveness.

Dosage of Stresnil 0.25mg Tablet
Overdose
Overdose of Stresnil may cause poisoning or serious side-effects such as blurring of vision, vertigo, bleeding from any site, and fainting. It may also lead to breathing difficulty and coma. One or two extra tablets of Stresnil are unlikely to be harmful. Immediately visit the nearest hospital in case of an overdose emergency....
Missed a Dose
In case you miss a dose, take it as soon as you realise this. If the next dose is due, skip the missed dose and start the next dose. Never take two doses in fewer intervals as this may lead to toxicity. Please reset your dosages by consulting your doctor if too many doses are missed....

A: Stresnil tablets are known to raise sugar levels in the blood. In diabetics, it may lead to symptoms such as increased urination, increased thirst and salivation l, along with feeling dizziness and blurred vision, which is suggestive of uncontrolled blood sugar. It is necessary to consult your doctor for regulating diabetes or keeping a diabetic chart for self-control of sugar levels at home.
Certain antihypertensives need to be avoided for hypertension when taking a Stresnil tablet. Follow your doctor's advice for other medicines that need to be taken to control blood pressure and blood sugar.
Q: Will regular usage of Stresnil cause weight gain?
A: Stresnil contains Alprazolam. If used for a long duration, it may lead to hunger and binge eating episodes that may cause weight gain. It may also lead to prolonged sleep and decreased energy output, which may, in turn, cause weight gain.
Q: Is Stresnil tablet habit-forming?
A: Yes, Stresnil belongs to a sedative group of medicine, it calms the anxiety and allows sleep, so it is habit-forming and may cause dependency if not taken as per dosage advised by your doctor. It is also advised not to stop it abruptly, as it may have a withdrawal phenomenon and recurrence of anxiety-related symptoms.
