Medical Description

Amicon Forte tablet is a combination medicine used for the treatment of anxiety disorders or the short-term relief of symptoms of anxiety, withdrawal symptoms of acute alcoholism, and pre-operative apprehension and anxiety. The active ingredients in Amicon Forte tablets are Amitriptyline (tricyclic antidepressant) and Chlordiazepoxide (benzodiazepine anxiolytic). The amitriptyline component of Amicon Forte tablets is used for treating pain, (neuralgic) nerve pain, back pain, and migraine attacks. It is also used in depression. Chlordiazepoxide has anti-anxiety, sedative, appetite-stimulating, and weak analgesic actions. The mode of action of Amicon Forte tablets is through its two components. Amitriptyline is a tricyclic antidepressant, which increases the levels of chemical messengers in the brain that help in regulating mood and treating depression. Chlordiazepoxide is a benzodiazepine, which works by increasing the action of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), a chemical messenger that suppresses the abnormal and excessive activity of the nerve cells in the brain. This medicine has a calming effect on various brain functions and helps treat anxiety. Directions for use of Amicon Forte tablets should be strictly followed. It should always be consumed under a medical doctor’s supervision. Conditions such as diabetes, heart diseases, liver conditions, menstrual issues, pregnancy, breastfeeding should be discussed with the prescribing doctor. Precautions and Warnings

Pregnancy

Almost all psychotropic medicines cross the placenta, especially chlordiazepoxide. Medication use during pregnancy and lactation requires critical attention to the timing of exposure, dosage, duration of use, and foetal susceptibility. Risk to the mother and foetus can be reduced with several simple strategies, including monotherapy with the lowest effective multiple doses of a medicine for the shortest period necessary and avoidance of exposure to benzodiazepines during the first trimester since this is when the developing foetus is most vulnerable to the toxic effects of most agents.
