Molecule Description
Moxifloxacin belongs to the class of medicines called Fluoroquinolones. It kills various bacteria that cause infections.
Uses
Moxifloxacin is an antibiotic agent used for a variety of bacterial infections. It is a broad-spectrum antibiotic. It can be used to treat skin infections, stomach infections, pneumonia, lung infections and eye infection.

- Nausea
- Diarrhea (sometimes it may be severe if blood is found in diarrhea)

- You experience eye irritation after using an eye drop containing this medicine
- It should also be given to the elderly with caution and after careful consultation with the doctor as it can increase the chances of swelling of joint tendon (tendinitis) and tendon rupture

How Does It Work?
Moxifloxacin belongs to a specific class of medicine that is known as Fluoroquinolones. Being an antibiotic, they work by stopping the growth of genetic material of the bacteria. Over time, the infection gets treated.
Interactions
Interactions with other medicines
This medicine is known to have severe interactions with Quinidine, Escitalopram and Corticosteroids. It is also known to have moderate to mild interactions with Ethinyl Estradiol, anti-diabetic medicine and Aspirin.
Dietary Restrictions
Avoid consuming supplements that contain iron, zinc, magnesium, calcium or aluminium within 4 hours after the medication is taken or 8 hours before taking medicine. These minerals make the medicine less effective.
Dosage
Overdose
Do not increase the prescribed dosage. Doing so will only lead to greater side effects or may cause serious harm to the body. It must only be used to treat certain conditions or if there are no other treatment options available.
Missed a Dose
- If you missed any doses of medicine, take it as soon as you remember. If the missed dose falls at the time of your next scheduled dose, then skip it. Do not take an extra dose more than prescribed to make up for it
- Avoid skipping doses as this may increase your risk of developing infection that may be resistant to antibiotics
- Complete the course of antibiotics for as many days as prescribed by your physician
