Uses
- As per USFDA and CDSCO, Nedol injection can be used in the treatment and maintenance of the following disorders:
- Schizophrenia: A psychiatric disorder that can cause symptoms such as hallucination (hearing and seeing things that are not there), delusions (having beliefs that are not true), certain mood disorders, etc.
- Tourette syndrome: A condition indicated by unwanted repetitive actions and sounds, also known as tics.
Contraindications
- Do not use Nedol injection or use caution:
- If you are hypersensitive or allergic to haloperidol or any ingredient in Nedol injection
- If you are diagnosed with dementia-related psychosis. In such cases, the injection can cause an increased risk of heart failure, pneumonia, death, etc., especially in older adults.
- If you have other psychiatric or mental disorders like Parkinson's disease
- If you have central nervous system depression (slow and steady decline of breathing)
- If you have an uncontrolled seizure disorder
- If you are pregnant. This injection can cause long-lasting effects in unborn and newborn babies
- If you are nursing
- If you have a low white blood cell count (leukopenia or neutropenia)
- If you are diagnosed with conditions like Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome (muscle rigidity and altered mental status) and Tardive Dyskinesia (sudden movements or tremors). It can worsen these conditions

- Side effects of Nedol injection include:
- Loss of appetite
- Mood changes
- Sleeping problems
- Urination problems
- Low sexual drive
- Muscle stiffness
- Weight gain

Other General Warnings
- You have conduction or rhythm problems of the heart; this injection can worsen that condition.
- You have other heart illnesses; you may require a dose adjustment.
- You have high levels of thyroid hormone or hyperthyroidism, be extremely careful with this injection.
- You have glaucoma (an eye disorder), use this injection with caution. It can raise fluid pressure inside the eye. Dose adjustment is required.
- You are an older person over 65 years, the dose of this injection should be carefully monitored. It increases the risk of side effects.
- You have any seizure disorder. This medicine can worsen the condition.
- You have a known history of severe liver or kidney illness.
Directions for Use
- You can take a Nedol injection before or after consuming food.
- Nedol injection should be administered by a doctor or healthcare professional.
- The injection can be given intramuscularly (IM) only.
- Do not administer these injections intravenously (into a vein) or in the spine.
- Wash hands carefully before using this medicine.
- Shake the vial before using it.
- Clean the injection site with some rubbing alcohol before injecting.

Interactions
Interactions with other medicines
- If you are already taking antidepressant medications like monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) (sertraline, linezolid, etc.), do not use Nedol injection without informing your doctor. They can cause serious side effects like decreased breathing, low heart rate, etc.
- It is better not to combine Nedol injections with Parkinson's medicines like levodopa. They have opposite effects, which can lead to side effects.
- It is not recommended to take Nedol injections if you use medicines that lower heart rate.
- It is not recommended to take Nedol injections if you are already using other antipsychotic, antidepressant, or anti-seizure medications. Using Nedol injections with these can cause severe adverse effects.
Interactions with food items
- It is better to avoid coffee, tea, or other caffeinated drinks and products while on Nedol injection.
- Nedol injection can cause dry mouth. Have ice or hard candy for relief.
- Try to avoid grapefruit and its juice with Nedol injection.
