Description
Clonasig 0.5 mg tablet belongs to the class of benzodiazepines, a group of sedatives and hypnotics. Benzodiazepines increase the concentration of gamma-amino-butyric acid (GABA) in the nerve terminal
s. The active ingredient in Clonasig 0.5 mg tablets is clonazepam. This medicine is used to treat anxiety disorders and epilepsy. Directions for use of Clonasig 0.5 mg tablets should be strictly followed. The medicine should be taken at a fixed time every day to maintain the balance between the chemical substances in the brain. The most common side effects of Clonasig 0.5 mg tablets are decreased sexual desire, frequent urination, fatigue, drowsiness, decreased appetite, and tremors. Most of the side effects are mild and do not interfere with day-to-day activities. However, if the side effects increase in severity, the user should consult a doctor. The doctor should be informed of any pre-existing medical conditions and medicines taken. This will prevent any potential adverse interaction with other medications. Contraindications
- Do not take Clonasig 0.5 mg tablet or use caution in the following cases:
- If you have had an allergic reaction to the medicine in the past; Clonasig 0.5 mg tablet is contraindicated.
- If you have angle-closure glaucoma; inform your doctor as Clonasig 0.5 mg tablet may increase the severity of symptoms.
- If you use monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) like tranylcypromine and selegiline. Combining the medicines can cause severe adverse effects like flushing, low blood pressure levels, coma, and death.
- If you have pre-existing heart diseases.
- If you have pre-existing liver diseases; Clonasig 0.5 mg tablet is metabolised in the liver.
- If you have lung diseases, Clonasig 0.5 mg tablets should not be prescribed as it decreases the respiratory rate.
- If you have a history of addiction. This medicine has habit-forming potential.

- You should monitor your liver function regularly, as directed by the doctor.
- You have any pre-existing kidney conditions. This medicine is primarily excreted through urine. Hence, a decrease in the excretion of the medicine can increase its concentration in the body.
- You experience convulsions after taking this medicine. Alternative medicine may be prescribed to control any future episodes of seizure.

- Anti-malaria medication (quinidine) can cause abnormalities in the heart.
- Medicines used to treat urine incontinence (darifenacin, fesoterodine, oxybutynin, tolterodine) become ineffective in the presence of Clonasig 0.5 mg tablets.
- Antihistamines (cetirizine) cause drowsiness.
- Antiarrhythmics (propafenone, flecainide) increase the chances of palpitations and abnormalities in heart rhythm.
- Antacids (cimetidine, omeprazole) decrease the absorption of Clonasig 0.5 mg tablets.
- Antibiotics (clarithromycin, erythromycin) decrease the efficacy of Clonasig 0.5 mg tablet.
