Directions for Use

This injection will be given by a doctor or nurse in a hospital or clinic through a vein or muscle, as appropriate. Do not self-inject. The healthcare team will choose the treatment plan and may monitor kidney function.

Storage and disposal

The hospital or clinic will store and prepare this injection according to its label. Do not use a prepared solution that is discoloured, cloudy, or has been stored outside the instructions.

Quick Tips

  • Tell the healthcare team immediately about a rash, facial swelling, or breathing trouble.
  • Report severe or persistent watery diarrhoea, even if it starts after treatment has ended.
  • Keep follow-up visits for kidney tests when your clinician recommends them.

Dosage

Overdose

An excessive amount may cause confusion, muscle jerking, or seizures, especially when kidney function is reduced. If you think you have taken too much of this medicine, contact your doctor immediately or visit the nearest hospital.

Missed a Dose

This injection is given by a healthcare professional. If an appointment is missed, contact the treating clinic for advice; the team will decide whether to skip the missed dose. Do not receive an extra injection to make up for a missed appointment. Do not take a double dose of medicine to compensate for the missed one.

How does this medicine work?

Cefepime blocks the bacterial enzymes needed to build a protective cell wall. The weakened bacteria then die, helping clear susceptible infections.

Interactions

Interactions with other medicines

Some medicines can affect the way this medicine works or increase side effects, especially other medicines that can affect the kidneys or nervous system. Tell your doctor about all medicines, supplements, and herbal products you use. In particular, tell them if you are taking aminoglycoside antibiotics, strong water tablets, anticoagulants, or medicines for seizures.
