Description
Caspa Plus tablet is used to treat comorbid depression and anxiety disorders. Anxiety is characterised by episodes of excessive, unrealistic worry and fear that interfere with daily activities. Depre
ssion is a mood disorder characterised by episodes of sadness, loss of interest, mood swings, hopelessness etc. The active ingredients in Caspa Plus tablets are Clonazepam and Escitalopram. The mode of action of Caspa Plus tablets is by lowering the excess activity of nerves in the brain, which leads to relaxation. It also has sedative effects that relieve anxiety and improve sleep. The dose of Caspa Plus Tablet should be carefully monitored. This medicine has many side effects, especially in older adults and persons with liver and kidney disorders. Sudden stoppage of Caspa Plus must be avoided as this can cause clinical worsening of the condition or result in withdrawal-like symptoms.

- As per CDSCO, Caspa Plus tablets are used for the treatment of:
- Comorbid depression (depression associated with other disorders)
- Anxiety disorder
Contraindications
- Do not take Caspa Plus tablets or use caution:
- If you are allergic to either active components of Caspa Plus tablets, i.e., clonazepam or escitalopram
- If you take monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) like linezolid, methylene blue, selegiline and antipsychotic medicines like pimozide
- If you already use other anti-anxiety or sedative medications
- If you have acute angle glaucoma (an eye condition that increases the fluid pressure in the eyes)
- If you have a seizure disorder and take antiepileptic (anti-seizure) medications
- If you have liver or kidney disease
- If you have respiratory issues
- If you have a severe heart condition
- If you are pregnant or breastfeeding

How Does It Work?
Directions for Use
- Take the Caspa Plus tablet as per the doctor’s prescription.
- This medicine can be taken with or without food or as prescribed by the doctor. In case of any stomach discomfort, take it after meals.
- It is best to take this medication at the same time every day so that a constant level of medicine is maintained in the body.
- Do not break/crush the tablet or chew this medicine; take it as a whole with a glass of water.
- Do not take this tablet with other medications; consult your doctor first.
- Don’t stop taking this medication mid-treatment. This may lead to withdrawal side effects.
- Don’t exceed the dosage on your own without consulting a doctor.

Interactions with other medicines
- Many medicines can interact with Caspa Plus tablets, making them less effective or increasing side effects. It is advised to inform the doctor of all medication being taken to be checked for possible interaction issues....
- Caspa Plus tablets should not be used concomitantly or within two weeks of using monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) like isocarboxazid, linezolid, methylene blue, selegiline, rasagiline, etc. It is potentially life-threatening....
- Concomitant use of Caspa Plus tablets with an antidepressant (like clomipramine, desipramine, imipramine, amitriptyline, amoxapine, etc.), opioids, and other CNS depressants is contraindicated, as it may cause respiratory depression, coma, and death....
- Caspa Plus tablet interaction with metoprolol can lead to excessive bradycardia (slow heart rate).
- Caspa Plus tablet Interaction with antipsychotics (pimozide and haloperidol), tricyclic antidepressants, and antihistamines can prolong QT interval on ECG and alter heart rhythm.
- Caspa Plus tablet interaction with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), aspirin, and other medications that affect coagulation can increase the risk of bleeding and bruises.
Interactions with food items
- Avoid cola drinks, chocolates, and caffeine-containing drinks like tea and coffee when on treatment with Caspa Plus tablets, as it can cause Serotonin Syndrome in the user. Serotonin Syndrome is characterised by high blood pressure, confusion, and muscle rigidity. ...
