Valium 2 MG Description

Valium tablets are used in medical conditions such as anxiety disorder, epilepsy, seizures, and muscle spasms. It contains Diazepam, which comes under the benzodiazepines group of medicines. Benzodia

zepines increase the action of the neurotransmitter gamma-aminobutyric (GABA), which slows down the central nervous system. Neurotransmitters are the body's chemical messengers used to transmit messages from neurons to other body parts. This medicine has to be taken as per the doctor’s advice. This is a habit-forming medicine; hence it has to be stopped as per the doctor's advice. This medicine should not be taken over the counter for day to day symptoms. Do not stop the medicine abruptly without consulting your physician, as this medicine has withdrawal symptoms like headache, drowsiness, or sudden mood changes. This medicine should be consumed preferably with food, but in case of emergency can be consumed without food as well.

Pregnancy

Can I take a Valium Tablet during pregnancy?

Diazepam comes under category D, which means that there is positive evidence of human foetal risk. It can easily cross the placental barrier and hence cause congenital malformations, premature birth, low birth weight, and other neurodevelopmental abnormalities in the foetus. However, additional studies are needed to confirm the same. Please consult your doctor.

Breast Feeding

Can I take a Valium Tablet while breastfeeding?

Diazepam and its metabolites are excreted in breast milk and may affect the nursing infant. Therefore, the clinician should monitor an infant breastfed by a mother receiving diazepam for drowsiness, decreased feeding, lethargy, and failure to thrive. One should stop breastfeeding if one takes diazepam for a longer period. Please consult your doctor.

Driving

Can I drive if I have taken a Valium Tablet?

There are a few side effects of this medicine like dizziness, sleepiness and headaches, so one should avoid driving or doing any activity that needs focus. This medicine decreases haemoglobin level and drops your blood pressure when you change your position; hence one should stand and sit carefully.

Alcohol

Can I consume alcohol with Valium Tablet?

Taking Valium with alcohol causes dangerous side effects like confusion, disorientation, accidents, sedation, stumbling, dizziness, nausea, loss of consciousness, addiction, brain damage, coma and even death.

Directions for Use of Valium 2 MG

Valium tablets should always be consumed as per a physician’s advice.
Do not stop the medicine abruptly without consulting your physician, as this medicine has withdrawal symptoms like headache, drowsiness, or sudden mood changes.
This medicine should be consumed preferably with food, but in case of emergency can be consumed without food as well.
To maintain a constant level of the medicine in the body, try taking the medicine at the same time every day.
If due to any reason the medicine is not taken on time or missed, consume the medicine as soon as possible or at the next given time.
Valium tablets should not be given to children under 6months of age.

A: Valium contains Diazepam, is a Schedule IV controlled substance with the potential for abuse. Long term use of this medicine in higher doses can lead to the development of dependence. Thus, these individuals should be under careful observation—the risk of withdrawal symptoms increases in these patients. Signs of benzodiazepine withdrawal include tremor, rebound anxiety, perceptual disturbances, dysphoria, psychosis, agitation, irritability, restlessness, sweating, headache, confusion, myalgias, abdominal pain, and vomiting. In rare cases, abruptly stopping this medicine can also cause hallucinations and epileptic seizures.

Q: Can Valium Tablet cause menstrual irregularities?

A: Valium tablets contain diazepam, which relaxes the muscles. Because of this reason, it is consumed by many females to control cramps and agitation during periods. But a long term use of this medicine can cause menstrual irregularities.

Q: What precaution should be taken in elderly people who are given Valium Tablets?

A: One should be extra cautious when giving diazepam to the older population. Elderly patients tend to have renal problems, and hence clearing capability is decreased; because of this, there is an increased risk of diazepam accumulation and its major metabolites.
