However, additional studies are needed to confirm the same. Please consult your doctor.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Valium contains Diazepam, is a Schedule IV controlled substance with the potential for abuse. Long term use of this medicine in higher doses can lead to the development of dependence. Thus, these individuals should be under careful observation—the risk of withdrawal symptoms increases in these patients. Signs of benzodiazepine withdrawal include tremor, rebound anxiety, perceptual disturbances, dysphoria, psychosis, agitation, irritability, restlessness, sweating, headache, confusion, myalgias, abdominal pain, and vomiting. In rare cases, abruptly stopping this medicine can also cause hallucinations and epileptic seizures.

Valium tablets contain diazepam, which relaxes the muscles. Because of this reason, it is consumed by many females to control cramps and agitation during periods. But a long term use of this medicine can cause menstrual irregularities.

One should be extra cautious when giving diazepam to the older population. Elderly patients tend to have renal problems, and hence clearing capability is decreased; because of this, there is an increased risk of diazepam accumulation and its major metabolites. Symptoms like hyperactivity, aggressive behaviour, irritability, anxiety, and hallucinations are also seen in older people.
