Medical Description

Embeta XR 25 mg tablet is used to treat high blood pressure and various other heart-related conditions such as angina (chest pain), heart failure and also helps prevent further complications. It contains metoprolol as an active ingredient having action specific to the heart muscles. Metoprolol relaxes the blood vessels thereby reducing the load on the heart and results in decreased blood pressure. You should not abruptly stop taking this medicine. Embeta XR 25 mg tablet should not be used by children below 18 years of age. It is recommended to take this medicine every day at the same time for the best results. You may experience side effects like nausea, tiredness, feeling dizzy, decreased heart rate and headache which may be mild and short-lived. However, if these symptoms worsen or do not resolve, contact your doctor immediately. Before using Embeta XR 25 mg tablet, inform the doctor if you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding and about your detailed medical history.

Uses

Embeta XR 25 mg tablet is used to treat high blood pressure mainly, along with certain heart conditions such as angina (chest pain) and heart failure.
It also helps prevent other conditions like stroke, heart attack and migraine.

Contraindications

If you have an allergy to metoprolol or any of the ingredients of Embeta XR 25 mg tablet. If you have a reduced blood supply to your limbs (peripheral arterial disease). If you have severe asthma or Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). If you are suffering from untreated high blood pressure due to a tumour in the adrenal gland (pheochromocytoma). If you have a condition called metabolic acidosis (increased acidity in your body). If you are suffering from a heart conduction problem (like AV block) or uncontrolled heart failure. If you are suffering from sick sinus syndrome (abnormal heart rhythms due to malfunction of sinus node). If you have continuous chest pain that occurs when you are at rest, between midnight and early morning (Prinzmetal's angina). If you are using medicines to treat irregular heart rhythm like disopyramide. If you have diabetes associated with frequent low blood sugar levels (hypoglycaemia). If you are suffering from low blood pressure (hypotension).

Precautions and Warnings

Pregnancy

The use of Embeta XR 25 mg tablet is not recommended during pregnancy unless prescribed by your doctor. Inform your doctor about the pregnancy and also if you think you might be pregnant.

Breast Feeding

Embeta XR 25 mg tablet passes into the breast milk in low amounts. Thus, consult your doctor before using this medicine while breastfeeding.

Driving

Embeta XR 25 mg tablet can make you feel dizzy or sleepy. So be cautious while driving after taking this medicine.

Alcohol

Consumption of alcohol is not advised as it may worsen the side effects of Embeta XR 25 mg tablet.

Talk to your doctor if

You are allergic to its active component metoprolol. You are pregnant or breastfeeding. You have asthma. If you have diabetes, caution is required, metoprolol may cause low blood sugar levels and also change the body’s response to low blood sugar. You may not be able to notice the warning signs of low blood sugar such as an increase in heart rate, sweating, hunger pangs, headache, etc. You have a tumour of the adrenal gland tissue (Pheochromocytoma). You have an overactive thyroid (a condition when the thyroid gland produces too much of the thyroxine hormone). You are suffering from a type of skin disease psoriasis. You have circulation related problem in the toes, arm, legs or fingers. You are suffering from a type of chest pain (Prinzmetal’s angina). You recently had a heart attack, chest pain or heart surgery.

Directions for Use

Embeta XR 25 mg tablet should be taken as instructed by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole with a glass of water. Take it at a fixed time for optimal results. Do not consume it more than that prescribed by your doctor.

Storage and disposal

Embeta XR 25 mg tablet must be stored at room temperature and away from any direct source of heat and moisture. Keep this medicine away from children and pets.

Overdose

Excess of Embeta XR 25 mg tablet may cause nausea, vomiting, a decrease in heart rate, low blood pressure, altered electrolyte levels. If you have taken too much of this medicine then contact your doctor or visit your nearest hospital immediately.

Missed a Dose

Take a dose as soon as you remember that you have missed a dose. However, if you are close to the next dose, do not take the missed dose. Try to follow the Embeta XR 25 mg tablet dosage regimen regularly. Do not take an extra dose of the medicine to compensate for the missed dose.
