Glycerin oral solution is a prescription medicine taken by mouth. It may be prescribed to help lower pressure in the eye, including before eye surgery. A doctor should decide the dose based on the product strength, body weight, and reason for use.

Take this oral solution only in the amount and at the times decided by your doctor. Do not take more or take it more often than prescribed, and do not change the dose yourself.

To improve the taste, mix it with a small amount of unsweetened lemon, lime, or orange juice. Pour the mixture over cracked ice and sip it through a straw.

If you miss a dose, take it when you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and return to the regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

• Headache may occur in some people.

• Tell your doctor about any unusual or allergic reaction to glycerin, other medicines, foods, dyes, preservatives, or animals.
• Older adults and people with type 2 diabetes may have a higher risk of dehydration.
• Tell your doctor if you have confused mental states, heart disease, or kidney disease, as glycerin may make these worse.
• If you are breastfeeding, discuss the possible benefits and risks with your doctor.
• Tell your doctor if you use arsenic trioxide or licorice, as these may interact with glycerin.
• Discuss the use of food, alcohol, and tobacco with your doctor, as interactions may occur.
• Lie down while taking the solution and for a short time afterwards to help prevent or relieve headache. Contact your doctor if headache becomes severe or continues.
• Store in a closed container at room temperature, away from heat, moisture, and direct light. Keep from freezing.
• Keep out of reach of children. Do not keep outdated medicine or medicine that is no longer needed.
